Concept art for a bigger animation project idea I'm currently brainstorming for.
Ideas are still shifting and drawings influence the ideas, so I can't tell how the end result will be like though I hope to be able to tell an interesting story one day :3
Context:
The young witchcraft student Zalumnee is having important talks about her future with her parents. Both having great expectations of her; as her mother - descendant of the country's royal branch - careful not to disrespect her uptight heritage... and her father; a prospering businessman, who knows everything about the market, yet not much about raising a daughter.
Both want to keep Zalu in line and follow in their footsteps, but their plans are nothing of interest for the aspiring occultist and will soon be met with determined disobedience.

The flowers are a returning pattern in the house, I myself don't like flowers that much and I figured Zalu wouldn't either, especially since they complement her rather morbid tastes. I also liked how Zalumnee's mom would regularly refer to her as a flower; but she sees it as a sign of imprisonment as she has to keep her flowers in a pot, unable to spread on their own and be very dependant of her mom, the polar opposite of what she wants to be.

Certainly it’s very heavily featured in the decor. But yeah I guess in a way it can be used for both sides, being kept in all the time and can’t branch out where as if it was like a wild flower you could let your tops expand to where ever they want to go and be unbound by no one

exactly, and then there's the fact that they're living in a quite dry region: flowers have a bad chance at sprouting there anyway, so putting them in a pot in this region goes against their nature; being where they're not supposed to. Maybe Zalu desn't like flowers but in a way she kinda is one hmmm maybe her mother was right in that regard, albeit not what she intended...
She is sitting there reaal bored, fiddling the knife while counting the time passes as the flow of parental lecture went through her head. Right ear in, left ear out, nothing is considered seriously into her brain hahah. And that loathsome "whatever" face is just describing her feeling well! XD
