ah, ok, I've considered getting one bc using a quest 2 to play pcvr games has not been worth the quest link's jank

they're definitely worth it if you can afford it! decent screen, good framerate, very good controllers (though they do pinch a little if you have them as tight as you're supposed to)

I'll have to look into it then!
I don't know if they'll be as good with changing setups, though, since I tend to have multiple vr playspaces I shift between depending on their availability

it requires you to have at least 2 base stations set up in your play area (little laser emitter thingies it uses to track its position in 3d space) so moving around would be a bit of a pain. it might be best to stick to just the one if you plan on upgrading to a high end vr headset, since to my knowledge all of them work like that

but also I have moved to linux in the meantime and imo it makes the quest 2 good for pcvr. WiVRn is really good software

The main thing holding me back from migrating to Linux is playing Minecraft with my cross-platform friends ~w~
(also Proton compatibility issues with my hyper fixation rhythm game series and Nvidia dropping official support for graphics drivers on Linux)

maybe one of those dual-boot thingies, though..

supposedly there's a Linux compatible third party launcher for mc bedrock, though I'm no Minecraft player. if you meet around with Linux, it's worth attempting.

which rhythm games? all the ones I play run flawlessly. basically the only one I've had trouble with is fortnite festival, but if that's the holdup, you should convince your friends to play something better lol

I have bit.trip runner. seems to require a couple tinker steps to get it going but it's working just fine for me. it's a shame they don't Just Work, but it seems all the games in the series have some way of getting them running, and they all run fine once you set it up!

I can understand not wanting to fuss with it though. Just wanted to let you know it's an option if you've been itching to get off windows lol

(Granted, RUNNER doesn’t need it as much bc RERUNNER exists now, but if this works for the rest of the OG series then… hell yeah)

I’ve been staying on Windows 10 with extended security updates for as long as I can bc I’ve heard none good about 11 lol. Once these updates end I am definitely jumping ship.

I just followed the steps in that protondb link I sent! geproton is a fork of proton that uses newer wine versions as its base instead of stable ones. other titles seem to have a trick that involves letting the first launch fail after install, deleting a folder in the game files, and running some commands in protontricks. you can see the specifics of what other people did on the protondb website and try it out yourself!
