Captain Celaeno was at the helm of her airship. She and her loyal crew of pirate avians were soaring through the air in search of adventure. The captain’s crew consisted of Boyle, the ship’s navigator, Lix Spittle, the crew’s chef, Squabble, who had a couple of miscellaneous tasks, and last but not least, her first mate Mullet.
The crew worked wonders with each other and had been through thick and thin. Even when they were enslaved by a king that shouldn’t be named. After he was defeated the avians were allowed to get back to what they did best; travel the world and collect treasure.
One day, the pirates were sailing through the skies, taking their time as they plan their next moves. Celaeno and Mullet were on the deck looking across the horizon. The captain looked through the telescope while her first mate was at the helm steering the ship. “Do you see anything captain?” Mullet asked.
“Nothing too interesting,” Celaeno admitted. She kept looking ahead of the ship until she noticed a big cloud of fog. It looked like it covered the entire sky. “Scratch that, we’ve got some fog ahead of us.”
“Is there a way around it?”
“Negative. We’ve got two options, brave it by sailing right through it or dropping anchor and waiting for the fog to clear.”
“I’d recommend we drop anchor and wait for conditions to improve.” Both Celaeno and Mullet pulled up the sails and went to drop the anchor, bringing their ship to a stop. Once that was done, they went below deck and met up with the rest of the crew and explain their situation.
“So, we’re stuck here until we can see through the sky?” Lix Spittle questioned.
“I’m afraid so,” Celaeno sighed.
“Well, that’s just great,” Boyle groaned.
“I’m not happy about it either, but unless you want to crash into a mountainside, we can keep going.” Boyle just nodded as he could tell the captain was pretty frustrated. The crew could hear the wind whistling outside as they could feel the ship rocking side to side a bit.
“Captain, I think we should head outside and properly secure the ship,” Mullet recommended.
“Right then. Mullet, you’ll be helping me with the upper deck. Everyone else, make things are okay down here.” The crew listened to Celaeno’s orders and went around the ship to make sure they would stay stable during the cloud of fog.
Above deck, Celaeno and Mullet would struggle to see where they were going. It was as if the fog was blocking out the rest of the world. Despite their struggles, they were able to secure the sails and started to bring supplies below deck to make sure they didn’t fall overboard.
“Captain, you know what’s strange?” Mullet asked.
“What would that be?” Celaeno asked.
“This fog… it just… Showed up out of nowhere. It’s unnatural.” The captain had to admit that this fog didn’t seem normal. It was almost like a supernatural force had put that fog in their way.
Celaeno was going to say something when a sudden chill shot down her spine. “Gah!” She nearly dropped to the ground as she rubbed the back of her neck. “Mullet, did you feel that?”
“I felt something,” the one-eyed first mate responded. Both pirates could feel that this fog was messing with them. A faint clatter could be heard down below. “That doesn’t sound good.”
“You go check it out,” Celaeno proclaimed. “I don’t think there’s much else for me to do up here.” Mullet nodded before making his way to check on the crew. Celaeno was now alone on the ship’s deck.
She looked around as the fog seemed to be acting strange. It was blocking her view from the rest of the world, but almost all of the ship was now visible. The pirate captain scratched her head in confusion as she felt something strange in her leg. It would be one thing if it was just her left foot, but Celaeno could feel some sensation in her… Peg leg?
How was that possible? Looking down, the captain could see something at the end of her peg leg. Celaeno would sit down to take her peg off and see what she stepped on, but the crystal peg wouldn’t come off. The captain gave a big tug, but instead of pulling the peg off, Celaeno caused herself some pain. Not only that, but she swore her peg leg just bent!
It should’ve snapped if it moved like that, but instead, the end of the crystal was growing little stubs. They had some blunt claws like her foot and they had caucasian skin. If that wasn’t weird enough, she could see her regular feet starting to turn into a match set of stubs that were on her peg. The foot and peg would each get five of these stubs, each having these nails on them.
Celaeno thought she was hallucinating. She reached down to touch her peg and it felt… Softer. There was still something hard she could feel in it, but it wasn’t just made of rock now. Trying to remain calm, Celaeno stood up and tried to run to get her crew, but her feet were getting hard to walk on.
Not only that, a sudden jolt in the avian’s legs caused her to fall onto her chest. Rolling herself onto her back, Celaeno saw her knees shifting to now bend forward. “Wha… What is happening to me?” Looking down at her few, the captain saw the cuff on her old foot start to extend and cover her new appendage. Similar material was starting to appear over her peg leg, which it and her old leg were turning into strange plantigrade feet.
With fear flowing through her, Celaeno forced herself back onto her new feet, which made her feel like she was on a balance beam for how the center she felt. She didn’t focus on the caucasian skin crawling up her legs, the avian captain slowly stepped towards the cabins where her crew would be at.
With each step she took, Celaeno’s tail started getting smaller and smaller. Forget about the tail, she needed her crew to figure out what was happening. She would start to feel less of the ship’s deck as her new feet were getting covered up by a pair of new golden-yellow shoes, which had green laces.
She wouldn’t have long to look at these as the ship suddenly tilted to one side. Celaeno fell off her feet as she slid towards the edge of the ship. Now that she was at the edge of the boat, the captain could see walls on the edge starting to turn into a dual pair of railings. Celaeno was just shocked as she grabbed onto the railing.
It felt real and made of metal. Celaeno then noticed the floor looked like it had a good wax, one of a much high quality than what she and her crew had ever done. She managed to stand up by lifting herself up with the handrails and her legs were starting to feel more natural to her. Looking down, she could see the ship was now in the ocean. It tilted from side to side, like it just dropped from the sky, which probably did happen.
No longer feeling like a baby taking its first steps, Celaeno made a beeline for the door to the lower decks. When she started walking downstairs, she noticed the stairs were starting to have another pair show up beside them. Looking down this new flight, there were even more stairs starting to show up. She tried ignoring this as her tail shrank away until it was no longer there.
Celaeno opened the door of the quarters, where her crew was cleaning up. “Captain, what are you doing down here?” Mullet asked.
“Mullet, something strange is going on,” Celaeno cried. “Look at my legs!” The crew all look at their captain now having a different pair of legs and her tail was missing.
Despite this, the crew didn’t react that much. They looked between each other and didn’t seem to understand or even see the problem. “Captain, do you need to lie down?”
“Um… I don’t know… Maybe? I just want to know what’s happening to me!” Celaeno held her head as she was about to go into a panic as Mullet pulled out a chair.
“Look, just sit down and we’ll talk about this.” Celaeno was about to until she saw Mullet take off his eyepatch and showed off his eye. This was a big shock for the captain.
“Wha… Mullet, what happened to your eye?”
“What do you mean?” The first mate rubbed his eye as he thought it felt a little sore. Celaeno looked at the rest of the crew and saw that Boyle had regained his hand and Lix Spittle was starting to lose her tail.
“Do… Do you guys notice anything going on?”
“Not at all,” Lix Spittle commented. “Maybe you’re just not thinking straight.” Celaeno didn’t know what to think right now. First, her body started changing, then her ship, now her crew?!
“I… I need to get some air!” she cried. Celaeno ran out of the quarters and tried to get above deck again as her wardrobe was starting to change. Her skirt was starting to wrap around her legs as they were starting to look like a pair of brown dress pants, one someone that a professional captain would wear. Celaeno stopped to adjust her green belt as she noticed more of the ship was changing.
The captain quickly noticed there were more doors than before. They were all a part of a long hallway and each door seemed to have a three-digit number on them. Celaeno tried to run past the doors as she could feel her rear getting rounder, in fact, the captain’s torso started to get more hourglass-shaped.
Celaeno then had a sudden thought, she remembered their treasure. She was worried about whatever curse was doing this would affect their treasure. She quickly ran to the treasury as she could feel more of her body starting to become… Different. Her mind was starting to get foggy as she ran to the treasury and she could hear some laughter.
When she got to the treasure, she saw something strange. There were children running around, but things were looking different. They had some traits of avians, but also ponies, griffs, dragons, and other species, but they still had traits of… Humans. Was that what Celaeno was becoming. She looked around the room and could some of the treasure turning into a small pirate ship that some kids were playing on and pretending to be pirates.
This room was becoming familiar to the captain. This pretend pirate room was where most children could run around and play while their parents took a break from the real entertainment. …Which was… The park? Celaeno walked away from the play area as she felt like she was getting a headache.
Celaeno could feel more of her feathers starting to shed off her body as she kept struggling to understand what was going on. “Captain, are you okay?” asked a familiar voice. Celaeno looked behind her after hearing Mullet’s voice, only to see her crew going through changes just like her. The captain stumbled back as she looked at the avians losing their bird features and becoming more… Human?
“Selina, we’re getting worried about you,” Mullet spoke.
“Mu… Mullet I….” Celaeno groaned as her headache was getting worse. She looked to her chest to see a decent pair of breasts. Blushing, the captain cupped her arms around her new asset as she need to find a new bra. What?
She jumped when she noticed Mullet placed his hand on her shoulder. They led her down the hall and walked inside a grand-looking room. There was some nice carpeting, a comfy couch, a wall-mounted TV, and a queen-sized bed. Celaeno quickly noticed a picture on the wall that showed a group of five people.
Why did she recognize it despite having never seen this pic before? It was… Herself and her friends? Celaeno had never seen these creatures before. They were… Her old friends were the very ones who were a part of her crew.
In the picture, each person was in casual clothing. There was a lanky man wearing glasses and had shaggy red hair, named Quincy, a muscular with a brown buzz cut named Billy, a stout African American woman named Liz, and then there was her best friend, who had spiky ginger hair, Marvin.
Celaeno held her head as she felt like someone just bashed a hammer against it. She heard some brewing and saw Boyle bring over a cup of coffee to her. “This fog is really messing with all of us,” Boyle noted.
“No kidding,” the captain groaned. She rubbed her head the green feathered hair started to become thin strands and lose its color. “Have any of you guys had some strange thoughts recently?”
“I’ve got some strange thinking about adding seeds to some of my recipes,” Lix Spittle noted. “I don’t know why though.”
“Well, my hand has been bothering me,” Boyle noted, rubbing the palm of his right hand. Squabble nodded as he moved his hand in… Sign language, saying that his teeth were feeling a little sore.
“It’s feeling like one of those days,” Mullet added, rubbing his eye. “This fog is causing annoyance to all of us. I mean, some parents kept complaining to us to fix this problem.”
“What do they want us to do?” Lix asked, “Get a vacuum and suck up all the fog?”
“I was tempted to say get a giant fan and blow it away.”
“Maybe you could’ve used their hot air,” Celaeno guessed, “They’ve got plenty to spare.” The crew shared a laugh as the captain took a sip of her coffee. Her neck started to shrink a few inches as almost every bit of her feathers were gone.
Celaeno’s headache was starting to die down as she began to think clearly again. This wasn’t the first time the fog had given her and her crew some problems. She had a bit of experience with maneuvering around foggy terrains, but a cruise ship like the one they were on right now would be better if they just traveled slowly or just stayed put.
As the last of her feathers started fading away, the last few changes happened to her body. Her ears slowly began to shrink and showed her peachy skin while becoming lobed. Her earrings shrank a little bit while keeping their style. Celaeno’s claws were starting to grow another digit so they would have five fingers on each hand, with her ring disappearing and going to her jewelry case.
The captain adjusted the buttons on her shirt, which used to be her dress’s top. She looked at the stripes on the top of her sleeves to show her rank. The pirate hat she wore turned more into a cap, which she took off as her green feathered hair started turning blonde and becoming real hair. She quickly grabbed a band on tied her new golden locks into a ponytail.
The captain rubbed her beak, which slowly started to shrink and turn into a nice little nose. She rubbed her two lips together as her teeth fully grew in her mouth her eyes started to sting a little bit as they slowly changed color from red to brown. Memories of a pirate were just becoming a fantasy to the woman now known as Captain Selina Carles.
Selina looked at her crew around her, a group of people she knew personally. First, there was Liz Steward, the cruise’s head chef of the restaurant. She didn’t take crud from anybody and gave respect to those who gave it back. Then there was Quincy, a bit of an oddball who was a mute, but he was a good medic and while he was a funny guy, he knew when to get serious.
Then there was Billy, one of the crew mates that helped Selina at the helm of the ship and navigated them out of a couple of tight spots in the past. Then there was her first mate, Marvin. He was usually the first crew mate the captain whenever they ran into a problem, such as the fog they were currently in.
Selina took another sip of her coffee and placed her cup down on the table. “Okay, I think my headache is gone,” she proclaimed.
“Good, let’s get back to the bridge,” Marvin suggested. “Hopefully the fog is clearing up by now.” The captain and her crew walked out of the room and went back to their regular duties. Along the way, they passed a couple of passengers, who expressed their concerns about the ship in the fog.
They did their best to keep the passengers calm as Selina noticed the fog began to clear up and could see the cruise’s star attraction; Ship Shap Land. It was a small pirate ship model that looked like it had sunk with a couple of water slides built around it. Because of the fog though, it had to be closed for a while.
Seeing that the fog was starting to fade and show more of the cruise ship, Selina and her crew made their way to the bridge to get back on track and make an announcement. There were already some crewmates in the bridge as Selina, Marvin, and Billy walked in. They took their places as the captain took out a microphone to make an announcement.
“Attention all passengers,” she spoke, “This is your captain speaking, we will now be able to resume regular activities now that we are out of the fog. We apologize for any delays that have accrued and we hope that you enjoy your vacation on our cruise. Thank you for understanding.”
Putting the microphone away, Captain Carles focused her attention on her crew. “Billy, are we all clear?” she asked.
“Crystal,” the ship’s navigator proclaimed. “We shouldn’t have anything like this happen for the rest of the trip.”
“Good to hear. Marvin set the ship to ten knots.” The first mate nodded and set the ship to the said speed. Selina felt proud to have such a great cruise for her passenger to enjoy their vacation as they sailed across the sea.
