A lot of people mistakenly believe that being a Grand Master Archmage means a life of constant adventure involving fighting vampires, necromancers, and wild mages. While such exciting events can and do occur, it's not a daily occurrence. If anything, the job is much more mundane than one would expect. Much of Jackie's time on the road is inspecting areas that naturally produce or otherwise brimming with magical energies, to ensure that they are neither exploited nor encroaching on the rest of the natural world. This could mean enforcing anti-logging decrees enacted on magical forests or inspecting a sudden spike of arcane energy in a once mundane area. Other times it's just going back to an already known enchanted area and making sure it's the same as it always is. In some way, Jackie's job could be described as being a mystical safety inspector, only she has the authority to cast fireballs and other spells if words alone aren't sufficient. An angry magician slinging bolts of lighting is surprisingly convincing, especially to those with no magical potential.

So here we have Jackie in one such place, the magical mushroom forest of Gavencha, a place where fungi and grass alike glow with arcane energy (and perhaps some natural bioluminescence, but they probably won't discover that for a few more centuries). Everything seems fine and a friendly dragon spirit wishes to perch on Jackie's hand. Perhaps wanting to give a warning of something dire about to occur or simply wishing the company of a mystical mortal. Spirits are known to enjoy the company of spell casters.
