Guarana is a fruit native to South America, found in Brazil, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela.
Guarana also has an incredible legend among the indigenous natives of the Amazon.
According to the legend, the fruit is nothing more than the eyes of a very happy boy and loved by his tribe in which he was killed by the evil spirit called Jurupari, in which he turned into a snake and bit him, Jurupari hated this boy for spreading joy and love, mainly for their beautiful and reluctant eyes in which they enchanted everyone.
However, the God Tupã asked him to bury the boy's eyes and water for 3 nights with tears of sadness and so they did, thus, the guarana was born.
In which its fruit revitalizes and energizes everyone.
I particularly love this legend.
So I decided to turn this fruit into this happy, playful dragon. <3

A very interesting and beautiful legend! It's really sad what happened to the boy, though it's often that a lot of legends tend to have some form of tragic element to them. The guarana has such an interesting looking fruit, I've heard of it but never saw what they actually looked like before. Now I have to wonder how it tastes, haha~
Very lovely artwork as always, though! Love the color palette, the soft looking wings and feathers, and the guarana fruit decorations on this dragon! Such a cheerful and friendly-looking guy, I wish I could have one as a pet for real x3

yes, I find it interesting how many myths and legends have a tragic element in the middle, but in the end, something amazing happens! Basically, much of Brazilian folklore is quite, how can we say, tragic?
anyway! Thank you so much for your comments and encouragement! I am very happy with your positive feedback and interest in the culture of my country <3

Indeed!! I feel like in most cases, tragedy in myths and folklore tales is often meant to serve as a means of teaching a lesson or some kind of moral. Like how a good many Greek myths revolving around heroic figures give warnings against having too much pride in one's self and whatnot when the hero ends up going through a tragic 'fall from grace' so to speak.
Of course! I'm always interested in learning more about the culture of different countries, especially through their collections of myths and folk tales! I feel like I would've liked to have been a historian or some kind of folklorist/mythologist in life, if I hadn't attended university for a science degree instead, haha~ And you express elements of your country's culture in such a lovely way through designing these adorable kinds of creatures, which is just so fun and interesting! I hope to be able to see more of these from you!
