Shadow was the 53rd Kaiju to appear in Dinosaur Great War Izenborg, in ep. 37 of the show; "Special Effects Film Fight! D Squadron".
_Bio and Abilities_
Shadow was a unique breed of Ankylosaur like Kaiju and one of the last monsters created by Zobina before her demise, one episode later. He could use the power of the Sun's light to create a Mirage fighter of him, though the fake posses red eyes, where as the real has bright white eyes – this Double will be as real as the original and fight without been hit in return with Shadow commanding it a safe distance. This ability had a draw back that if the sun is block, the Mirage disappears and Shadow is unable to conjure another one.
Shadow was the third and final Ankylosaur variant to appear in the series, the suit having been both Aroro and Unko in Episodes 5 and 11 respectively.
_Story_
As the members of D-Force are invited to a tour of Movie Studio, presumably working on a project based on their exploits, Zobina works on her latest creation, the Mirage Ankylosaur Shadow.
Note: much of the episode is concentrated on the cast visiting the studio, with Ippei been enthralled by acting, and at one point, playing the role as one of the monsters on set – the other two been stock footage for Torara and Rahno from Ep.8, but these bits feels it drags on with not much action until half way, when Zobina shows up to spy, with Shadow appearing to fight in the end; so We'll skip much of this and get to the point. Now I will admit, it is kinda funny to see an episode on Kaiju movie making – obviously a stand in for Tsubaraya Productions – where cartoon characters walk around in a still live action setting while instructing fellow cast members wearing real life suits.
Zobina arrives to the studio, crashing onto a tree and falling into the pond – she then explores the place searching for D-Force where she sees the Production of Izenborg in action with Ippei in the suit. Zobina attacks in anger, finding it insulting but Ippei fends off her assault and gets out of the suit, escaping with the team and the production crew; Zobina then grows in size and attacks the studio, while Zen calls for the Transport to deliver the Izenborg. Zobina captures Ippei and puts him a water tank tower. Barra and the Movie's producer try to save Ippei, but they end up trap as well when Zobina destroys the Ladder Truck.
Quick Note: It is interesting to point out the Kaiju suit Ippei wears is the one use for the Stegosaurus variants, wearing the modification given to create Gagara, from Ep.25, but with a larger horn on the top of the head. This suit was seeing a few time in Grottes' main chamber when commanding his foot soldiers as a head ornament, similar to a Triceratops one also seeing on occasion early with the former later replace. Whether it was a planned Kaiju to appear but drop out is not certain, as the final 4 monsters aren't Stegosaurus variants, but in retrospect this marks the final appearance of the Stegosaurus Suit in the series.
The transport arrives and lands the Izenborg, Zen and Ai board their Tank and transform into Super Izenborg, and attack Zobina, but she throws a debris, blocking the ship's attack and diverting its course, cutting the Water Tank and dropping the prisoners, albeit they survive the fall. With the Super Izenborg actually trying to kill her with every pass, Zobina calls for help, Grottes sends Shadow to her aid and Zobina soon retreats as the Monster shows up. The Siblings then combine as Aizenborg.
The Giants fight, with Aizenborg overpowering it the Beast unleashes its Mirage Double and the Aizenborg is dominated by it, with Shadow commanding it from behind; IzenTwo shows up to help, but their missiles fly through the fake and hit the Humanoid instead. As Aizenborg is dominated by both Shadow and the Mirage, the Producer comes to realizes the Beast's trick: IzenTwo releases smokescreen to block the sun, nullifying the image. Taking the chance, Aizenborg brings out his Light sword, and dashes through the mirage and stabs Shadow; the Beast explodes.
After the Battle, the team apologizes for the damage to their studio, but the Director states he will rebuild, with the help of all, and still wanting Ippei in the role of a Kaiju.
