If you go back to the end of Chapter 3, it looks like it's her, or a descendent of hers; that's handing that lil blue thing through the portal back to the witch.
So likely by some quirk of their family lines power/magic, they get... very extended life along with their powers

That is SO COOL

Wow, that came full circle in a way I wasn't expecting at all. Way back then I'd thought it was going to be more sinister.
Looks like they're going to do more than just "borrow" that adapter for "a few hours." From the looks of how much that one spell took out of her, they're probably not going to be able to send it back

Oof, I fear our witch ally may not be long for this world. It feels like she gave all of herself for one last good deed before she departs.
Had to go back to the start of the mentioned loop. The foreshadowing now has full meaning, and seems like an interesting take of time interaction; she knew what was coming, and what she needed to do, based on an unanswered question of the past; "I understand what it is that I need to do, because history has shown that I've already done it."

Yeah, I recall a similar plot structure was used in the book All the Wyrs of Pern, wherein a character learns that unexplained events in the past where actually the result of things he was expected to do in the near future via time travel. It's not an iteration of "time travel" I see very often.
Thinking about this page...
-I suspect the witch will have her sendoff on the next few pages - between her tail wilting, eyes going hazy, the abrupt sweating, and desaturation(graying) in the last panel, I'm thinking this is the last time the sun sets on her. If that is true, her words in the second panel imply she knows this will kill her - but a promise is a thing kept. (She may last a few hours, but that's not certain.)
-Her apprentice is apparently learning what she's going to do, and the patterns she needs to redraw centuries from now, in order to complete this mostly-closed time loop. (I'm still not sure why the apprentice's future self is smiling like that. It's raising my hackles a touch.) The choice of texts is apt for this kind of magic... And now I wonder if those are the same candles, stored for all this time.
-That's the same adapter from comic 3 page 27. ( <= Link ). Exposition on what an adapter does is there.
-Now that I look at previous pages, Gaston has a remarkably similar eye-color to the Director. (Same page as the above link) Possibly related, or tabloid rumor-mongering on my part?
