Wanted to make a fursuit friendly ref sheet, and decided to update/ clarify some of Leaf's features as well. Changes include a reduced number of head feathers (now 1 dark red, 4 red, 3 orange and 2 yellow feathers), a more visible back design, simplified diagram of their butt feathers, and a new okapi stripe design on their legs.
Character/ original ref sheet designed by
ApocalypticBee and owned by myself, fursuit friendly base created by
AngelsNest, and ref sheet linework edits/ additions/ coloring done by myself.
I'll add some of their lore below :) Still a WIP.
~Personality & Abilities~
Leaf has a rather laid back personality, but can become very energetic when curious or excited. They have a habit of headbutting things for various reasons, whether out of curiosity or as a way to size another creature up. Although this trait might be interpreted as an act of aggression, Leaf is actually very empathetic and patient with others.
Because their duty is to make sure that summer changes to autumn, they display adept control of the air as well as the ability to trigger decay. Since the latter ability drains much of their energy and can be dangerously powerful, Leaf uses it only when necessary. Since they can control the air around them, they're able to gain speed and maneuver deftly by generating wind. They also have the ability to communicate telepathically, which they use to speak with and hear the thoughts of other creatures. Their telepathy tends to be the reason why they enjoy being around and observing creatures from Terra. Further, Leaf's ability to control the air is what draws them towards the company of birds of prey.
~Likes & Dislikes~
Due to their natural powers and job within Terra, Leaf has a few specific likes and dislikes. Along with the cold, they love snow as well as (naturally) leaves. Interestingly, thanks to summertime creatures such as fireflies, they have an affinity for objects that produce light as well as things that glow. This doesn't include fire, as they don't enjoy intense heat. Leaf isn't the biggest fan of the dark, but will tolerate nighttime.
They have a tendency to hoard bright feathers, as well as foods that animals might enjoy. Because of their fascination with other creatures, Leaf tends to try replicating sounds made by said creatures (such as owls and elk). They haven't interacted much with humans, and as such are unsure of what humans like to eat/ what noises they commonly make. Because mimicry is the way that Leaf learns more about creatures, they tend to employ that technique when interacting with others.
~Background~
Pre-War: Before Dutch Angel Dragons were cast out of Paradise, Leaf was part of a small group responsible for making sure that the seasons on Terra changed in a timely manner. In particular, Leaf was in charge of making sure that summer would turn into fall. This would be achieved through their wind breath, manipulation of the air, and power of decay (used cautiously and rarely). They were rather content with their role and admired many animals found on Terra, particularly birds of prey and those creatures who thrived even as summer changed to fall.
War: Leaf has always been a loyal protector of other creatures, but this loyalty was exploited by an ancient one who allegedly wanted to bring balance to the universe. This ancient one decided that Leaf's power of decay (as well as similar powers used by other Dutch Angel Dragons) would be useful in adding chaos to the universe. They managed to convince the dragons to use said powers after explaining the importance of balancing the universe (which, as it turns out, didn't need balancing).
Many of the dragons with powers similar to Leaf's were part of the group in charge of changing seasons. As such, many who held these powers worked together in an effort to disrupt the normality found within seasons. A large number of fauna and flora perished at random during the spring and summer seasons. The dragons in charge of changing the seasons into spring and summer were not told why this was happening, and so confided in the ancient one who had become so fond of them. The ancient one explained the concept of bringing balance through chaos, and again, some loyal dragons followed their instructions, breathing life into creatures and plants on Terra during the fall and winter.
Not all dragons agreed with what the ancient one said, but it seems as though many were still pulled into this conflict due to connections and bonds with each other. In the end, all sides lost. Some creatures would inexplicably pass away during the spring and summer, while other creatures who had already suffered might be brought back and forced to once again live with their ailments for unknown amounts of time. The dragons of life and the dragons of death clashed in an attempt to balance Terra, yet the ancient one's guidance only created problems, not solutions. In the end, both sides came to the conclusion that none of their actions were helping, and ceased their disruption of and battle against the dragons of the opposing season.
Post-War: After Dutch Angel Dragons were cast out of Paradise, Leaf was left to wander around in the Aether, ashamed by their actions during the war. They were still curious as always when it came to creatures found on Terra, but they didn't trust themselves to return to their duties after having recklessly forced creatures to perish when it wasn't their time to pass on.
Leaf visited many locations as a nomad and came across plenty of creatures, including a handful of Dutch Angel Dragons. They tried to avoid others, but some were met under uncontrollable circumstances. One dragon that Leaf stumbled upon had fought on the opposing side of the life vs death battle, and was part of the group in charge of making sure that winter changed to spring. Unfortunately, this dragon had already been twisted by the abyssal realm, but they were willing to talk with Leaf in regards to the war.
The discussion was intense, as both noted the impact said war had on each other. For Leaf, the consequence of misusing their power was forced self-isolation. The other dragon, having witnessed the decay of animals and plants during the spring season, was scarred by what they saw. At that point, they became numb to emotions and embraced the chaos that was playing out. When the war ended, they followed the ancient one who had instigated everything and entered the abyss, further destroying their identity and solidifying their loyalty to chaos.
After this discussion, Leaf decided that the best course of action would be to once again return to looking after Terra, as few dragons had stayed to continue observing the shifting seasons. They decided they would be a protector of the forests during all seasons, and that they would greet everyone (abyssal or not) with open arms in the hopes of restoring faith in one another within the aether.
