Alice Vanneleigh and Kai Ishikari, Witch-Hunting Witch and Cyber-Ninja Knifesmith.
Alice is Melanie's mother, born to a family of witches which as implied by her title, she's not on good terms with. She uses her demonic pact-partner Arachne and string-based techniques to hunt down the remaining members of her clan in order to make sure Melanie is able to live a peaceful life.
Kai Ishikari is a cyborg ninja and the adopted father of Sammy, Agnes, and Tomas. A former corporate assassin and high-ranking Corp Soldier assigned to (and enhanced/trained by) Shogo Heavy Manufacturing Concern, he defected when assigned to murder a young Sammy in order to facilitate a false death for a disgraced mob informant, Sam's father. Taking the child as his own, years later he'd adopt a pair of twin child soldiers sent by his former employer to kill him again.
