I'll paste part of the introduction to Chakats concerning the history.

"The original creation of anthropomorphs during the 21st century was an often abused science. They were created as personal slaves, sex kittens, vicious fighters, etcetera. The collapse of the decadent and stagnant societies into decay and the inevitable widespread wars caused a backlash against the abuses of science and the death of many of these earliest creations, not to mention millions of humans. Out of this mess, however, came a new enlightened society which began to take responsibility for the enormous ramifications of a highly technological era. The genetic sciences were revived because of the need to rebuild everything, but this time with very strict guidelines in place. The morphs were to be treated with the same respect and rights due to any human being. If they were bred for a specific task, they nonetheless were given a complete education and the opportunity to choose another career if they wished. Anyone engaged in genetic research was subject to strict, constant scrutiny. This time the morphs got the best society had to offer instead of the worst."

I never knew that background. Thats cool. I never understood why they decided to create a herm though?

Ah the gene wars thats right, been a while since read through it all. I think shi turned out pretty well. And were all thinking it, im only just sayin it, Chakat maneuver! XD

I'm curious, not a newbie fur by any means but I've never seen the stories that started all the chakat world. I'd like to read them sometime. Would you know where I could find them? They're sorta a huge part of the history of the Furry Fandom.

Well there have been a few mentions here and there and a brief history in the "An introduction to Chakats" but a proper full length story, I'm not sure there is one. If there is then I haven't read it myself yet.
You could always try asking Goldfur though to be sure, shi would know. :)

Out of curiosity, did you track how much time it took to produce? I'm always curious on this, because my own oils (when I have time to produce one) take between two weeks -- in terms of hours (one 20x24 canvas was nearly 3 months).

It would be really hard to be the first of any species or race. Imagine the pain of trying to fit in with the rest of society. Given if there are already taurs it wouldn't be as bad.

Well while it could still possibly be hard, being the first of your species still beats knowing you're the last of your species, no? At least you can still have hope that there will be more like you when you are the first. :)

you know when hir name was mentioned i always imagined hir as a white and black striped tiger for obvious reasons.

One reason why I specifically avoided the white tiger pattern.

Thanks for all the work you do on characters from the Chakatverse. I've been enjoying your work each time I see it on the Chakat's Den website, and it was only today when Goldfur posted this up that I realized you were on FA as well. This is gorgeous!

I can't think of much that hasn't already been said! It pulls at the heart strings and makes me stop and think about my own past! Thank you for doing this portrait it really puts faces to the names of people we only read about in the stories.

...though i can't help but wonder how two people who dress like such squares could personally raise such a bohemian species.

What are the implications if people through science are able to genetically engineer anthros? or a normal dog or cat that has human-level intelligence? It's something to really think about philosophically or religiously, but I think it'll be really cool though.

As soon as I saw the title and the man and woman in the pic, I knew it was Charles and Katherine! This history I had learned from hanging out at The Chakat's Den website, and from my copy of Forest Tales.

I'm not that big a fan of herms, taus or boobies... but these creatures seem to fascinate me...

haha - that is interesting! I dunno, I've always liked taurs, even before discovering the fandom =). A lot of people can't seem to wrap their minds around them anatomically, though, and I guess I can understand that ^.^ Sometimes I have trouble deciding how to position all the limbs.. XD. But that also poses interesting challenges for creating a believable fantasy creature =).

no Chakats are dual sexed taurs that were genetically made just before a period in their time line known as the great reconstruction ended.....pretty much the whole earth had been fighting with the anthro species and slaves that they had made for a good 40 years from 2050 to 2090 in a war called the Gene wars oddly enough.

i didn't find out about chakats until AC 2012... there was a "chakat gallery" behind the posting board.
i've never really liked taurs, but i love cats, so a cat taur ?? eh... sure count me in~ the chakats (@ AC 2012)
were more for humor not to be serious however.

i thought that chakat was " chicken + cat " so this clears all that up....
