With kobolds being rather adorable and of just the right size to pick up, I imagine sometimes the temptation proves a little too much. Oliver just wanted to show some affection to his bro on his birthday but hopefully didn't give Euclid too much of a scare in doing so.
Best to remember that to a kobold, you might be twice their height and several times heavier so it would be like if you were suddenly picked up and hugged by a troll or an ogre.
