Went to Fry's and picked up a Celestron cardboard telescope (don't use it in the shower) for $37.00 +tax = $39.xx or so. Got out before the clouds moved in tonight and got a view of the Jovian system with all 4 Galilean satellites in view. Pretty nice optics and su-PERB motion on its chipboard base. Extremely stable compared to longer cheapass scopes.
Nice view of the moon, too--saw the central peak of either Alphonsus or that other crater next to it.
Looking forward to seeing the Pleiades and the Orion nebula, along with some neighboring galaxies.

Note: that's a drawing I made of what I saw...even though I could see Jupiter's disk (not his dick, his disk)--there was a lot of squinting involved. But I was pleased to note that Stellarium, the freeware planetarium software, showed the Jovian moons just like this on November 11.
Since it's a cheap telescope intended for 10-year-olds, I'd have to make a camera mount out of epoxy and stuff...but it would be possible, with some effort. Not really worth the effort, though. I'd wait 'till I could afford something expensive. But then I'd want to drive it out to West Texas to get the total dark sky...getting complicated...
P.S. Howdy, Fara!
