This is a single I released in between my EP, Dissonance, and my album, Mess. The description, taken straight from my Bandcamp page, goes as follows...
This is a song I made back in January of 2020. Yes, it's been sitting on my hard drive doing nothing but collecting cyber-dust for over a year. It was originally intended to be one of the tracks on my upcoming album, but as I progress in making the music for said album, I realized this song just doesn't really fit in. I figured that I would release this as a single instead, and besides, I haven't uploaded any of my music for a long time so I hope this is a pleasant surprise. To be honest, I'm not really happy with this song. I dislike this one in the same way I dislike my other song, "Fluctuations" (if you haven't already, go check that one out): they're both almost entirely made out of a crap-ton of samples that I somehow got to work together. I remember I made "Not Who I Was Expecting" because Cymatics had recently released a pack with samples from an actual Fender Rhodes Stage Piano. I can't remember if it was the same pack, or a different one, but I also had a bunch of lo-fi sounds too. Combining these together, I made a half decent song with a cool lo-fi feel. As you can tell by the title, I was not expecting to make a lo-fi song when I started working on this tune (I was thinking of making an ambient synth thing), but it would be pretty difficult to make this sound better in any other genre. The vocals don't make sense because I wasn't concerned about the words, I was concerned about whether or not the vocal lines sounded good with each other. All in all, I think this sounds pretty good, and I hope you think the same.
