You have to be a REAL superfreak to stand out around here.

Here's one from early last winter.
Strolling between Sharkeez and Mutts on the semi-deserted boardwalk,
I met this young man as he happily rode his skateboard.
He did the biggest double take ever as he whizzed by.
I knew he'd come back.
Sure enough, 2 minutes later, he raced towards me, a quizzical look
on his face.
"Pardon me," he asked politlely, "but why are you wearing a dog suit?"
"Just for fun," I assured him, and then went on to explain the joy
it brought me to be a big mutt and to make others smile.
He couldn't believe it. I mean he REALLY couldn't grasp it.
We talked for several minutes about self expression and the like,
and I finally convinced him that there was no hidden agenda here.
Just fun.
Turns out he was from a very small town in a state that is rather
conservative. He was always the outcast growing up, always apart
from the other kids because his method of self expression differed.
This was his second day living in California.
He told me he loved it here from the moment he got off the plane
and saw the palm trees.
"No one gives me a second look," he said.
I told him that we loved our unique personalities and all the color that
they bring to life. I assured him that he'd fit right in.
He gave me the biggest smile ever.
"I tried to go to a party given by some classmates in my hometown,"
he said. "When they saw me coming they put up a sign that said
'No Weirdos.' I knew it was for me. I don't expect I'll have that
problem here."
I gave him a hug and wished him luck.
He flew away on his board, whistling and smiling.
I think he's gunna' love it here.
After all, compared to a talking dog, he's mainstream.

I know that place..I went there once because my auntie got lost with me in the car.
there's a tiny little sand beach, a pier to fish fish..aaaand a taco bell near by, isn't there?
or am I mistaking my beaches?
*w* You sure are nice to give let him know he'll fit right in with the weirdos around here.

Once again you are an inspiration. I had a hard time in high school. Also a small town. I carried around a husky puppet and performed with him at lunch an on the playground... Maybe it's the home made beer that has me spilling over the side like this but thank god for people like you that give the outcasts courage to express themselves. *hugs*
Now that's something.
Gotta say, the idea of doing something simply for the fun of it is seemingly rarer nowadays... though granted, if you asked him why he was riding a skateboard, he'd probably say the same thing, that he just loved doing it.
I guess a lot of us can relate to the feeling he had... but I think he'll love living in Cali. ^^

Pft, that kid is *awesome*! I'd hang out with him, anyday! This one I'm leaning towards a little, but I still enjoy the other one of the boy and his father! Great story, Dog- you're gonna make one hell of a grandpa later on in life
"Gran'pa Dog! Gran'pa dog! Tell us a story" *rush up in a flock*
"Oh....*sweet creaky old dog smile* if you insist!"

Maybe it's because I live in CA, but it's almost strange to hear that there are still states that have populations so rigid in their thinking that they reject anyone with such minor differences, like the kid in your picture. Makes me wonder how such a place would handle someone in a dog suit. I just got an image of villagers with torches and pitchforks. You better stay here where it's safe, DogBomb. :3
Ive always been that "Weird" guy where im from, not much friendship for about 16 years. exept some few but they started being an ass to me to. Well ive been happy since i became a furrie, found my place. And yes this was a very nice story thingy. thats an instant fav ofc
*tailwiggles* I felt this human's energy though my monitor when looking at the photo. He looks like he is going places. I bet if you where to look this guy up in 15 years, he will own half the state and have a giant dog suit of his own! It is very cool how you touched him and did the thing that you do so well for our community. I think this is my favorite so far. Thanks for sharing the story along with the photo. *Hugs*
LOL!!! That's awesome as flying pigs! Not the swine flu mind you. ^^ Seriously though, I love "real" human experiences like that. When you really connect with someone for just a second. Or basically just open their eyes to something they were blind to before. Its a great feeling for both parties. Rock on dude. ^^
