The fire's hot, but it's special magic fire separate from what normal red dragons breathe, and this isn't a forest, it's the side of a volcano on a tropical island, so he's got it under control ;)
I'm glad you like him, though. He actually was never a D&D dragon, but based on the Pathfinder's Golarion setting. However, after a while I decided I wanted to tweak his design to something a little more personal, so if anything, he's somewhat of a midpoint between a D&D Red Dragon and a Pathfinder Red Dragon.
The patches of shiny scale are a phenomenon that occurs, (at least, in Pathfinder) where classically evil chromatic dragons can become shiny if they shift towards a more metallic dragon personality type (and metallic dragons have a corresponding effect called 'tarnish' when they go bad). I wouldn't say Charirflordara is a 'good' dragon, but he's certainly not evil by the standards of normal red dragon behavior, preferring to be more of a magical scholar and hole up on his island. Instead of ravaging the archipelago he lives on he takes the pragmatic approach of leaving his neighbors be, beyond trading kobold made goods (he taught them about metallurgy and things when he arrived) from the shadows. Hence, the shiny patches.
