<Everyone!> Ivy shouted, grabbing the attention of all four of the pokemon beneath the tree. <Let me introduce to you Mira's newest catch, Machop.>
The furret popped his head up immediately, taking a look at Machop and then quickly scurrying over. <Why hi there Machop! I'm Winston and I've been here a long, long time. It's always nice to see new pokemon coming through. So, what region did you come from? Did you travel far? Why do you think Mira chose you?>
Winston was practically trembling with anticipation as he bombarded Machop with questions. She stammered for a moment, trying to find an answer for one of the many questions when another voice came from behind the furret. When Machop looked over, the Jolteon was now standing.
<Is this the one you told us about, Ivy?> He spoke with a commanding air. He wasn't asking Ivy, he was telling her to answer him. If there was any hostility there, Ivy played it off wonderfully.
<Yes, she's the Machop that managed to hit me.>
The jolteon walked over, examining Machop with intense eyes. His tail flickered as he neared, standing as tall as his otherwise diminutive stature would allow. He looked so small and frail, but his presence made him feel like a giant. <She doesn't look like much. Her performance had better be greater than her appearance.>
Without another word, the jolteon turned around and walked away with Winston following. Machop's heart was thumping through her chest and her fists tightened in restraint. She turned and snapped to Ivy in a whisper, <The NERVE of that guy! I wanted to punch him in his snarky little snout right here!>
Ivy looked back and replied quietly and urgently, <No! You do not want to tamper with Joules. He may be abrasive but I have never met a pokemon stronger or more dedicated to battling than him.>
<Him?> Machop said, furrowing her brow. <He looks like a powder puff! Just look at his fur. He's got the fluff of an Eevee, like he belongs in a beauty competition, not a battle.>
<He is not a typical Jolteon,> came a new voice. The Alakazam which had been reading at the tree now looked at them over the book he had laid in his lap. <Most Jolteons have sharp, spiny fur which can be used in needling attacks but not Joules. Before evolving, he was a special breed of Eevee called the Angora Eevee.>
Machop looked at Ivy who nodded back, noting quietly, <That is Kazaa. He has a tendency to lecture, so please just indulge him.>
Kazaa continued, <Angora Eevees are noted for their particularly long and soft coats of fur and are known to be quite the rarity among Pokemon Breeders. Generally, the breeds are saved exclusively for Beauty Competitions but Joules was a rarity even among Angora Eevees. His aggressive tendencies were uncommon and, to be quite blunt, unfit for a Beauty Competition pokemon so the breeder sold him to Mira who decided she would evolve him utilizing a stone.>
<Now, this action in and of itself had the potential to be quite dangerous. The effects of the Angora Eevee breed have not been fully studied among the various evolutions that the Eevee was capable of and have been known to produce mixed results. Angora varieties of Vaporeons generally have thicker scales which results in both higher defensive abilities but slower speed due to the added weight. Flareons typically retain more heat within their bodies, making their fire attacks more effective but with the added risk of frequent heat stroke in warm environments. And then we have the Jolteons.>
Kazaa turned to make sure Joules was far out of earshot before continuing. <Most Jolteons have the capacity to use Electric attacks as well as attack with their stiff, sharp fur, projecting it out of their bodies at high speeds. Angora Jolteons however retain their soft fur and lose all capacity for spine attacks. Instead, their soft fur has an increased ability to collect and retain static electricity, resulting in a stronger charge. Furthermore, Joules maintains an accuracy of 89% with his thunder attack so it would be unwise for you to engage him.>
Machop stood there for a moment after Kazaa stopped, not sure how she should respond to the Alakazam's ramblings. With an awkward smile, she said, <Uhhh, thanks. I won't.>
