So, a bit of a background, I'd like to think that prior to being stationed at the lobby desk, Clawhauser was in the field and maybe, one day, had gotten into an accident that led him to be in the lobby desk. Perhaps he got a leg injury that caused him to be immobile which is why he was assigned to the lobby desk. It was meant to be temporary post, but as time went on, he became out of shape and couldn't go back. At that time, he was still in better shape than now but eventually turned to what he is today.
Other than that, I'd like to think of this as an alternate universe Clawhauser 🙃
