This is a little critter that lives in the world of nightmares and dreams. This little frankenstein-looking puppet is actually just a creature wearing a small costume over itself. They are incredibly shy and hardly ever come out into the light. They live in the underworld of dark thorn forests.
They are obsessed with wearing their costume which essentially becomes a part of who they are and establishes their identity amongst their kind. Within their social structure, the more extravagant and clean looking their costume is the more fancy they appear. The problem with such attire is that it rips and breaks very easily in the environment the critter lives in. Indeed, the prickly bushes, thorn trees and the murky swamps often mean that the nightmare critter often has to repair its costume. That is why it constantly carries around the necessary equipment for emergency sowing on itself. The social status of the nightmare critter can be distinguished by its appearance. If the critter wears a clean, un-ripped and colourful uniform it probably belongs to a noble or royal status. If the costume on the other hand is ripped, dirty and has been sowed together many times, it means the critter is of a low status and doesn't have the means to have others forage in the thron forest for it.
The nightmare critter is harmless as it is often too small and too conscious about the integrity of its clothing to even try to harm anyone. They often just stare at visitors from a distance in the darkness of the thorns and only their glowing eyes behind their big goggles can be seen. If in danger, the nightmare critter will not try to defend itself but will escape at a tremendous speed (leaving a trail of ripped bits of clothes behind). If cornered they are able produce a very intense flash from their eyes at the cost of much effort and energy. The bright light is usually enough to scare any creature that lives in the dark thorn forests and swamps and will surely leave anyone blinded and confused allowing therefore the critter to escape.

Intriguing. Can't help but wonder what one looks like without their costume. I don't know much a bout this world of yours, so I wonder, do they get born? Do they get created? Is their a moment where they don't have a costume yet, do they make their first costume themselves, is it made for them?
Well I suppose they start out as a tiny sock which has been made with love by their parents and before you know it, you've got a small muppet running around!
As for their appearance I don't they are very ugly. Instead, it looks like a small, dark-skinned, scruffy-looking, bat-like creature with big ears and a funny snot. They do not cover themselves because they are ugly inside, but because their real self looks rather boring without a fancy costume.
