I blame two things for my sudden interest in goofy orb shapes: those two scenes from the 1940–50s era of Tom and Jerry, and Funkyfluff, a recent friend of mine.
They draw this niche shape called an “ubersphere” which is like an orb shape but to the point where your features start sinking in. Here’s a sequence of an unnamed cat character blowing out into that shape, and into extra-large territory until they’re nothing but a giant blimp with two big, sunken seeing orbs.
So, a little bit more on the “body horror” side for most inflation fans, but I guess that’s why they call them niche.
