The Way of Traveling Souls - Monk Subclass (Read text plz...
A towering bull in modest robes spends an entire day talking side-by-side with a homeless elder, aiding the poor person’s difficult daily life and humbling himself with every tale told to him. The senior’s appearance hides deep wisdom, now freely offered to the bovine.
A wolf monk joyfully plays ball with children on the street, using life-long trained acrobatics to dazzle them with kicks and jumps, teaching them the benefits of a good and diligent life. Gifted with a small toy as a souvenir, the monk cherishes the trinket for all his life.
A slim cat rests in lotus position over a roof warmed by the dusk’s light, deeply meditating as the noise of the festival’s preparations under her act as a pleasant white noise. Fireworks roar to signal the festival’s start, one she is eager to join.
Monks from The Way of Traveling Souls share their goals with many other schools: enlightenment, mastery of body and soul, diligent training, and modesty. But while this mostly happens inside monasteries far from cities, those under this teaching prefer to attain such experiences first-hand by traveling far and wide all over the world, interacting unprejudiced with each and every living being that allows their approach. At the same time, they must be ready to deliver precise strikes against all who make their goal to bring misfortune to others.
Instead of belonging to one wide and secluded monastery, Traveling Soul Monks have smaller monasteries near or even within cities, offering both a safe haven for monks to rest and share experiences, as well as to aid those in search of new knowledge or perspective. Regardless of age, gender and position, every story and piece of knowledge passed to them is treated as a piece of the person’s soul, and their true temple is within their hearts, where all pieces mold and shape their lives.
It is never specified when or why a Traveling Spirit monk must settle down or even return. Wounds and aging are the most expected causes, but any honorable motive that calls for their devotion is respected—love, family or even a new path. Therefore, no punishment or judgment is cast upon those who return to the road, for it is believed that the journey of life isn’t easy or clear, and no second is wasted in different trails as long you cherish and learn from it.
Finally, while nearly all monks began their travels at a proper age and training, it is not uncommon for them never to be seen again, be it due to misfortune, abdication of the path or even finding a place where their presence is needed. Students are also an important motive; even if traveling alongside their masters is the best way to teach them, the world is far too cruel and dangerous. Therefore, decent accommodations for living and training are used as monasteries until the students are ready to get back on the road, be it with their master or alone.
I just love monks in RPG games, yet on most systems I've played, all of them were... socially inept, and while it is perfectly understandable for those who spent most of their lives in seclusion to be 'out of the water', how come no one mentions how enlightning would be! Traveling the world, meeting new places, bonding with all sorts of people... Well, hence why I made a subclass about it!
But since I suck at balancing, I'll just type the flavour text here, and enjoy the art =p
"Admiring the colors and special pictograph symbols on some beads of his acessory, the wolf relive the bond and purity formed between him and those dear of him. Such uplifting emotion makes his spirit soar in confidence and faith"
