18 years ago, in a rural village in Ghana, a little girl named Jaara unexpectedly discovered she had magical powers. In fear that she'd be persecuted as a witch, her family made her promise she'd never use her powers in public. One day a few years later, however, she accidentally cast a spell in a place where many could witness it. That night, with the urging of her family, she fled the village, seeking refuge only after leaving Ghana entirely. She made her way across Africa, never staying in one place for long, and eventually settled down in a hut on the eastern savannah. Getting by with a mix of her magic and survival techniques, she's lived a reclusive, somewhat primitive lifestyle. Whenever people did manage to come across her, she was friendly enough to them, but her manner of behaviour would often unsettle them after awhile. Word of her spread bit by bit, and soon she found people seeking her out for advice, spiritual cleansing and charms. Now 38, her power is greater than ever, as is her bond with the spiritual realm, and she knows something is wrong with the world. Something that shouldn't even be in this world, in fact. Armed with only what she needs and bringing along a morbid companion of sorts, Jaara gets ready to fight, willing to do so if that's what must happen.
