A 'Character Select' Portrait of Kalama for my fictional fighting game, Battle Beasts. This is a commission for Dark-Nightshade (DA). Usually drawn as a human, I've had to give Kalama the anthro treatment to join the tournament, taking the volcano-headed girl and making her a dragon - it seemed only fitting for such an unusual body modification.
Hailing from a secluded island nation, Kalama is part of the rare Fire Crown tribe; a race of dragons who spend their entire lives dedicated to the way of the warrior. Forged in combat against each other and the islands natural, feral beasts, the Fire Crown tribe lives for the rush of battle and the mantle of dominance, always seeking to rise higher and higher in the ranks. Their united goal is to become the strongest in the world, and to that end, this isolated race has even gone to the extreme of breeding bigger and more dangerous creatures to overcome. Raised as warriors, the Fire Crown tribe is taught that no threat is too great, that every challenge must be answered, and that total dominance or a glorious death are the truest rewards they can achieve.
And so, when word of the Battle Beast tournament arrived on their shores, Kalama's people leapt at the chance to take part. A chance to fight the greatest warriors from across the globe on the world's stage. A chance to prove Fire Crown dominance over all challengers! Battling for the privilege of representing her tribe, Kalama has proven herself the most worthy candidate and is hungry to test her mettle against anyone and everyone with the strength to stand before her. The promise of a wish fulfilled? Hardly even of interest to the dragon... however, should the tournament prove unworthy, should no fighter be able to offer Kalama a real battle, perhaps that wish could be put to good use. After all, what could be greater than summoning the most powerful nightmare creatures of the void, monsters so terrible they could threaten life across the globe... maybe then Kalama and her tribe will finally have the ultimate battle they seek, or meet a glorious death at last.
"Stand and face me, warrior! Fight well, and I will honour your ashes..."
