Rickard Balier - Redesign
Not so long ago in my Telegram group I posted a redesign of him (left pic). From that moment on, questions were spinning in my head. "Why did Rickard's own mother hate him?", "Why was he miraculously saved from death by his own grandmother?", "Why his own family tried to kill him?", "How did he end up in the castle of the ruling family?", "Under what circumstances was Rickard left in the service of the princess?" etc.
In fact, I still have to paint and think through his story so that it doesn't seem strange and devoid of meaning. In the meantime, I'm sharing concepts that will be needed for arts in the future.:
Ricard Balier isn't the real name given to him by the king(!).
Born red fox, though with the marks of a kind, he was doomed to death at the hands of a family in which such children symbolized misfortune, sin and the decline of the dynasty. Bringing shame and stigma on his mother and father, he left them no choice. The decision was made.
In an ill-fated hour, when death was close to taking him away, a miracle happened. The grandmother, who was an outcast for the very same reasons, stole the baby from the cradle and went on the run. This was their last chance.
Making her way through the thorns of a dense forest, under the cover of night, she vowed to save her grandson's life, and to achieve a glorious future, which he was deprived of from the very beginning.
The pursuit was inexorably gaining on them, the neighing and trampling of the horses were getting closer and now, it seemed, the end had come...
But suddenly, in the middle of the darkness, the woman noticed a dim gleam of light, similar to fire. With the last of her strength, she rushed there, thanking her ancestors for the hint. Getting closer, she saw the flags of Sancarrion, proudly flying at the tents. A camp, she thought.
Bandits, retinue or brave soldiers? It didn't matter anymore, because death was whispering behind their back.
Noticing an old woman running out of nowhere with a child in her arms, the soldiers were alarmed, almost taking up arms. She ran up to them with pleas for help. Confused, the men tried to ask about what had happened, but to no avail, the woman was too scared. They offered her a rest, but were refused. Then a strange request came from the mouth: "Take me through the camp to the edge of the forest, please." Having agreed, they headed in that direction. After passing several columns, they approached the tent of the commander-in-chief, Edon. He, in turn, came out of it right in front of their noses. For a second, everyone froze. "What's going on? Who is this woman?" he asked. The soldiers involuntarily lined up and blurted out everything as if in spirit. After examining the old woman from head to toe, Edon politely invited her to his tent. It was impossible to refuse.
Further along the story, Edon learns about the escape of Sheovin (that's the name of Grandma Ricard) from herself. He offers his help in the form of sending her and the child to the capital, where the Mochizuki clan would not get them.
And upon arrival, another story begins with Rickard becoming a knight and a bodyguard of the princess. I want to make a couple of sketches, from which it will become clear how everything happened, + I will write a mini story like now.
Someone will have a question why the commander helped a strange woman. The answer lies in his past. Having lost his wife and beloved daughter under the same circumstances (the chase and further death), he was consumed from the inside by guilt. This night became special for him, it became a sign. By this act he wanted to deprive himself of the burden, if not completely, then partially. He was basically a furry of honor, and could not leave the helpless in trouble.
