The afternoon had started out simple enough for Lux that day.
Learning to use an Amkaryan Universal Crayon had been the only major roadblock, but as soon as he found the color changing wheel on the base of the small drawing implement he was immediately deeply engrossed in creating his next masterpiece.
A righteous knight (who, being righteous, was on the right of the picture) was challenging a fearsome fire-breathing dragon at the grounds of the tower where the beast kept the beautiful princess locked up.
Lux loved to fantasize about such wondrous tales of magic and swords, of beast and man, of right and might, of evil and darkness.
Just as he was admiring the result of his handiwork, a very fake throat-clearing caught his attention.
"Ahem... is that supposed to be me?" asked Aurora from behind him in a very neutral tone.
Lux spun around with a start, almost startling the dragoness herself before she recalled that Earth humans didn't have the keenest of senses.
"Ahhh... no?" replied Lux, unsure.
He noticed that the colors he had used to depict the evil dragon matched up quite perfectly with those of Aunt Aurora's scales.
Her tone so flat, he didn't know if she was offended or genuinely curious...
"Aw, too bad. We could play that one out, you know..." She half-offered with a kind and playful smile and the faintest of mischievous glints in her eyes.
Lux thought for one second, then beamed "OH, SURE!".
He had been on Amkarya for just over a month, but the thought of dragons being right there in real life and available to play with still hadn't fully settled in his young mind, even if those dragons were now his parents and relatives.
Aurora masterfully swept him out of his stupor, dragging him straight into the action of the play with just a touch of magic animating some simple scenery around them.
...
This is bad! - Lux thought - That's not how the story goes!
Aurora had taken some liberties with the storytelling. Ok, actually quite a lot of liberties.
The outcome of the story had completely changed, but hey, that's just what happens with evil dragons!
To her it was all just a fun game and a way to tease the little one while teaching him basic trust.
He needed to learn to be more trusting of his new family anyways.
As soon as the scare would be over he'd learn to appreciate their special kind of affection.
...but for the moment, Lux felt in quite the pinch!
Was Aunt Aurora just playing around? Would she really... eat him? Oh no... What if she really did?
GLK... GLK... GLK
He would find out soon enough...
Another piece with Lux and Aurora.
This one is set at least a good decade before their last outing on this gallery.
Lux here is in his earliest days on the planet Amkarya, having just been abducted from an orphanage on Earth and adopted by Nayryx about a month prior.
You can tell by his pale blue shirt, a special protective garment meant to make him safe in the Amkaryan environment which will soon be replaced by the much superior orange model you've previously seen him wearing.
You can also tell by his fearful attitude around Aurora, a sharp contrast to how smug and teasing he looked in their other pic.
Here he still isn't fully accustomed to dragons and being swallowed certainly doesn't come natural to an Earthling.
Just give him time and not only will he understand it's perfectly safe, as Aurora here is hoping, but he will also begin to crack jokes about it, much to Aurora's dismay.
Pro tip: you can tell Aurora is playing by the distinct lack of salivation. Amkaryan dragons produce saliva volountarily or only when ingesting food and Aurora certainly doesn't see Lux as such.
This is an older work of mine and it kinda shows. While it hasn't aged all that well, I think it's still somewhat representative of how I'd handle quickly colored sketches.
I'm not really satisfied by the overall quality, but I feel that for a webcomic or a quick funny vignette it still conveys the scene well enough without requiring ~3h of inking and ~6h of shading.
Feel free to tell me what you think though, is this quality level too ugly? Or would you read a webcomic in this style?
