Last Monday was a holiday here in Germany and I used the day (and the 9€ ticket to take the train to Erbach and Michelstadt in the Odenwald mountains about 55 km south of Frankfurt, near the state border to Bavaria and Baden-Würtemberg.
Houses in the historic town center of Michelstadt. Something interesting I noticed in Michelstadt was that many old houses had facades made from wood shingles, something that I did not see in Erbach just 2 KM away. This is remarkables as wood shingle facades is an architectural detail I normally associate with the Wetterau, a region north east of Frankfurt in central Hessen.
