You write well. But unless the story actually describes something that happened between you and your mate IRL, I couldn't figure out your problem... Perhaps it's because the relationship I've been involved for seven years has been so easy and comfortable. There's no tension, no arguments, no secrets. I've gotten so used to it that other people's worries and fears sometimes seem pretty alien to me.

The part about not letting the beast win reminded me of Vampire the Masquerade. "Ride the beast and join the feast he offers." ^^;;

thank you for the complement. i bet that's nice. i don't have many secrets from him, and i'm 99.9% sure that he has no secrets from me (most of that is it seems to be in my nature to question).
the beast, unfortunately, is depression. and the phone conversation (save for the part that Cat wispered) actually happened, and i really did go to sleep that night feeling like something was wrong. the rest of it was me venting the depression and stress in a safe way.

As for Vampire the Masquerade, it's a pretty popular RPG involving modern day (and medieval) vampires. In this context "the beast" refers to the vampire's dark nature. When a vampire "rides the beast", he lets go of his humanity and becomes a beast so to speak.
