Salvestro - Babylon 5 Lt. Cmdr. Triceratops
If you didn't know it before, then know that Babylon 5 is my favorite TV show of all time. I have watched all five seasons at least twice, and some of the seasons a few times more than that. And there's select episodes I have watched more than two dozen times at least. If you've never seen it, by all means go and do so! Here's a pair of clips from one of my favorite episodes:

I've always imagined myself as an extra character on the show interacting with all of the other cast and even having some stories of my own in the action. I imagined myself third in the chain of command and spending a good bit of time in C&C, especially when Sheridan or Ivanova had to be off the station; I would be promoted to Lt. Commander in Season 2 after Ivanova was promoted to Commander, which is the rank my staff bar here shows.
While Triceratops is not an alien race they have on Babylon 5 it totally should be. Doesn't my saurian shape work so well with the Earth Force Blue? Ack, back on duty, the jump gate's opening!
Big thanks to
Salvestro for doing this amazing piece and for watching the first three seasons so far! Again, if you've not seen Babylon 5 before, by all means go and do so! It's really an extraordinary show that did longer story arcs before anybody else.

Those are hard to top, though I think Kosh's reveal scene is right up there too with how jaw dropping it is (with Sheridan jumping out of the transport tube first, dang).
And of course, for sheer humor there's so much, though Vir's finger wave at Morden is probably the most satisfying.
And Delenn wearing her Sunday best in the Finale... freaking heck the tension in that scene is heartbreaking.

So Cobalt is the Trekkie, and you're the Babylon 5 fan? Just need to find a Battlestar Galactica fan and complete the trinity.
It's interesting that you think so deeply about how to integrate your fan character. I don't do many fan characters myself, but I have a rule about doing them in a lore-friendly manner: They exist to enhance or supplement existing story and themes, or create new ones as side stories that don't alter canon events. Nice to see other people give it some thought, too.

For me, that would have to be BSG (2004), best scifi EVER. Though Babylon 5 holds a special place in my heart. It was the first serialized scifi I ever watched and I am always impressed how JMS kept it going despite losing some of his actors and the compressed season 4 and 5 into 4, and then having to make a new 5, and Claudia Christian's departure (to which I finally learned the story) but anyway... Did you hear they're rebooting it?
JMS is working on it now.

I had not heard about that at all. I just read up on it and it looks like Fall 2023. I've mixed feelings about it. A Reboot could work, though the Shadows won't be a surprise anymore since it sounds like he is going to take the same basic arc he started with just try and do a few things differently. I guess I'll wait and see what more develops. That JMS looks like he'll have full creative control is a good sign though. So sad that so many of the actors I loved have passed on. My daughter's old enough, going to have to make her watch the whole thing.

Well, as always I'll reserve judgment, and I don't know what his plans are, but it'd be nice to see what he does, who knows, he may surprise you. I doubt he'd want to do it the exact same way so it'll be interesting to see when we have enough to take a look at.
And yeah, we've lost far too many of the B5 actors. Michael O'Hare, Richard Biggs, Andreas Katsulas, and most recently Mira Furlan. I may be missing a few.

Right. While we don't see any non-humans as part of Earth Alliance, I always imagined there'd be a few who had special protection from Earth and could join like my Triceratops here. So either you can see your own species in a similar situation, or they'd have to be part of the diplomatic core, merchant class, freelance finder (like Garibaldi in Season 4), or something shady.
