.Biography: Neyla was born along with her twin brother, Ojas, in Mumbai to Ekansh, a struggling fireworks salesman, and Regina, the daughter of a British officer during the Empire's rule over their native homeland of India who fell in love with Ekansh when showing her a beautiful fireworks show in front of the Taj Mahal to win her heart along with an older sister, Brinda, and a younger brother, Aayan. When growing up with her father, Neyla was taught how to create fireworks and explosives from him and she had a king cobra as a pet whom she named Rajesh and successfully taught it how to play fetch. However, he died gruesomely after eating a lit small black bomb that he mistakes for a black rat and exploded. Neyla gave her pet cobra a traditional Hindu funeral before cremating his remains and kept a shrine along with photographs of him.
During Gandhi's nonviolent resistance against British rule in India, Ekansh was accidentally killed during a clash with the British authorities and Regina's father, Ulger, had her daughter and grandchildren leave India and traveled various parts of the British Empire before settling in the United States. While her siblings went to get jobs of their own, Neyla hopes to get work as a journalist, but decided to get a job in a fireworks factory in Los Angeles' Chinatown district to honor her late father's craftsmanship. During one Chinese New Year, she was kidnapped by a failed thespian group of Gremlins who were plotting to blow up Hollywood to get revenge and use her to make explosives for them. She cunningly escapes and stops them by setting off a large explosion with her fireworks that destroyed their hideout and got them killed. Her heroism got her a membership into the then-newly established private vigilante group, the Lucky Mavericks. When Oliver was later recruited into the group, Neyla along with her fellow 3 members, mentored him.
.Personality: Neyla usually acts as the quiet and calm member of the Lucky Mavericks, giving her the nickname, "Silent Neyla", at times. She usual communicates with facial expressions, hand gestures, or talking in her native Hindi to her fellow teammates or others. Walken acts as a translator when Neyla speaks in Hindi and others don't understand. Neyla does indeed understand and speaks perfect English and usually speaks the language during rare moments of emotional or humorous times. Neyla being quiet and rarely speaking English or another language instead of Hindi is acknowledged by her fellow Lucky Mavericks as part of her character and they managed to learn and understand Hindi from her. She usually sits cross-legged whether inside a building, a car, or on top of one with her eyes closed like she is meditating and has a recurring habit of juggling and catching then igniting her lighter in a pattern when sitting with her eyes closed.
Despite being usually the silent member of the group, Neyla is strictly loyal and hates the idea of being separated from her teammates as she accepts them as her best friends and surrogate family. Like the rest of the Lucky Mavericks, she is courageous and selfless as she lays down her life to protect and rescue people during dangerous situations. She is slightly a pyromaniac as she does take delight and amazement at the sight of fire or explosions, usually created by her and her own explosives, except when disaster strikes and innocent people are in danger and is horrified at the sight of. Similar to her teammate, Fudge, she does have some childlike tendencies such as the enjoyment of eating snacks and watching cartoons.
.Inspiration: Neyla's anthro human bumblebee design is greatly influenced by the art style of my friend, RockyToonzComics, including one of his Beeson characters. Her hairstyle is modeled off the character, Manjula Nahasapeemapetilon, from the animated series, The Simpsons, created and owned by Matt Groening and the Fox Network. Her outfit is modeled off the Women's Army Corp uniform during World War ll, including the outfit the character, Emma "Granny" Webster, wore from the episode, Eligible Bachelors, from the Warner Bros. animated series, The Looney Tunes Show. Her namesake is from the character, Constable Neyla, from the Sony video game series, Sly Cooper, with her being my favorite villain character from the series.
