comments got me thinking more about Myca's background, and this scene popped into my head. also gave me an excuse to draw more of Etherson & Myca together. they cute together. :33
just gonna copy/paste the original comment i wrote here--->
Myca's home planet Myx is one giant colorful greenhouse. most tech on Myx is biotech, architecture is grown from plantlife. a Myxian "house" is basically a large mushroom with holes to slither into. not well suited for dry creatures like humans (also the atmosphere is quite unbreathable for non-Myxians), outside designated areas a suit is advised to ward off the many, many allergens & spores that float about.
thanks to their bio-gen know-how, the main export good of Myx is genetic alteration. plants, animals or people, want a crop with greater yield or more resistance to disease? ship it to Myx! the Myxians don't even ask for much in return, just more samples to study.
the Myxians themselves are actually one giant hive mind, Myca here is just a single cell core (that's what her eyeball is). on Myx her people merge with each other regularly to exchange information & memories. technically Myca doesn't have a sense of self like a human would, she's more like a single ant out in the field gathering intel for the hive, until she returns and then her memories will be shared equally with the collective. which explains her aloof personality and seeming lack of self-preservation, her death would only mean a loss of new information to the Myxian collective but as long as the collective exists, it's a minor loss at best. Etherson would be very sad but to Myca her "body" doesn't have much value and she could very easily be replaced by any other Myxian. non-hive minded people's attachment to single Myxians often seems puzzling to them. she does understand that it doesn't work that way for other species though, so she sees a single human more like a whole Myxian collective.
