Hi!! So... I finally went back to this story! Part 3 is already in progress, but as for now, please enjoy a nice, relaxing macro micro fic. I've been in a really soft macro mood recently, so who else to fill that besides Roxy and Eve? Again, sorry it took me so long to get here, but I really hope you guys enjoy.
Part 2: Feeling
“… Eve? You still sleeping? I’ll be honest, I don’t exactly know how your sleep mode thing works.” Eve was poked in the head, which prompted her to ‘wake’. Her face lit up in all of its digital glory. Eve moved to stare at Roxy, in which case, she softly smiled.
“I can always exit sleep mode, and I’m always listening during it too, for whenever I’d need to wake up and be ready for ‘play’… Your sleep seems different than that.” Eve unplugged herself, and stepped closer to the edge of the desk. “You don’t respond to noises, speech, or anything.”
“Yeah, our sleep is different like that. It’s a lot like… Being powered off, o-or something, but our bodies turn ourself back on.” Roxy was in the process of getting dressed, tossing on a sweatshirt over the t-shirt she had worn to bed. It was fairly warm outside, similar to yesterday, but the sweatshirt was more of a comfort than a utility.
“I see…” Eve sat down on the edge of the desk, watching Roxy curiously. Even with what she was programmed to understand, Eve found herself not knowing much about the living and their activities.
“So uh… Eve. I was thinkin’ about this… Do you wanna… come with me today? Just ride along in my pocket or something, nothing crazy,” Roxy seemed nervous about asking. She was nervous that Eve would say no- or that this would be a step too far, considering how Eve’s last outing went, crushed underfoot, almost exploding… Roxy would be surprised if she even considered saying yes.
“Of course! I’m very interested in learning about your life, and the life of all giants. Now that I can actually catalog this information, I’d love to learn more about it!” Eve was rather peppy, swinging her legs over the long fall below her. It was like she had no fear. There was no reason to fear, not when she could rebuild herself from most injury.
“O-Oh, great! That’ll b-be… Wait, giants? I-I mean… To you, I guess I-I’m big…?” Roxy sat down at the desk, giving Eve a couple feet of space. ‘Giant’ just sounded so evil; after all, Roxy had smothered Eve underfoot and yelled at her. Maybe she was an evil giant. She didn’t like the thought of being evil, but deep down in her core, she loved being evil, even if it wasn’t serious. That was the whole point of Eve, an ideal prey for her to play and toy with. Even ow she still desired it, but she would never dream of laying a finger on Eve with any malicious intent. Eve mentioned she wouldn’t mind such toying, but something about it still made Roxy concerned about doing it.
“Yes, giants! That’s what my code often refers to you as, and it’s one of my preloaded names to call my master. I figure it would be an apt name for you all!” Eve didn’t seem to be thinking about it in that way, not in the slightest. A robot didn’t think the same as a person did. Eve saw Roxy as her ‘master’, who was categorized as a ‘giant’. That was as simple as her programming got, so that was how she saw the world.
“R-Right, but… please don’t call me master, I just… I wanna be your friend. Now that you’re all free thinking and stuff, it’s different. Just call me Roxy, alrighty?” Roxy smiled, her thoughts of being an evil giant leaving her head as she looked down at Eve’s happy smile. She was just so joyful. Roxy couldn’t imagine being happy in her situation, but there Eve was, ever optimistic. The smile was infectious. Roxy let out a little chuckle, before extending her hand under Eve’s mechanical paws. “I figure you probably don’t wanna uh… get picked up by the head anymore, o-or grabbed at all really. If you wanna just… hop on my hand, it’ll be safe, and I’ll be careful! Just… whenever you want to of course.”
“Ah, um…” Eve stared at the hand for a few moments. That wasn’t a command she had been issued. She held no obligation to jump into that hand. She could just say no- after all, it was the hand that almost turned her off. The hand that pushed her over. The hand of someone who liked her scared… But Roxy had changed. She acknowledged Eve’s sentience, and respected it. Those doubts she had faded, looking up at the Lynx’s goofy smile. “Yes, Roxy! I find this alternative… preferable.” The mechanical rabbit dropped into Roxy’s hand, which twitched as she landed. Eve got up to her feet, finding the soft surface of the palm quite the interesting place to keep balance on.
“O-Oh, wow, ok. Didn’t expect y-you to be ready so fast…” Roxy lifted her palm, raising Eve to just between the Lynx’s eyes. Eve’s knees buckled as she was raised, but kept her balance with no issue. She was built was spectacular gyroscopics, and never struggled to stay up straight. “So… basically, I think I’m gonna put you in my pocket, a-and you can peek out whenever you want. Sound good?” Just like the stories Roxy read online. When this was the exact fantasy you had lived in your head hundreds of times, you tended to be prepared with ideas.
“Ah! Understood. If I find something wrong, or unsuitable, I’ll do my best to contact you.” Eve nodded and smiled, ever optimistic. That little optimism really lit Roxy up inside. She loved it. It was… adorable. A faint blush creeped across Roxy’s face as she stared in silence.
“R-Right, just… b-be careful. Please.” Why was she getting flustered by a little robots joyful demeanor? She sighed, and lowered Eve to her pocket. She was cute- adorable even, and now that her personality wasn’t chained in place, Roxy couldn’t get enough.
Eve hopped into the pocket, glancing around the soft, spacious canopy of the pocket. It was similar to the shoe, but less hot and damp. It was difficult to walk inside the pocket, Eve instead opting to crawl. It was a safer way to maneuver, as she found herself getting deeper into the pocket. Her purple LED display lit up the dark pocket, revealing to her the emptiness around her, aside for sparse pieces of lint and crumbs.
“Cozy?” Roxy asked, reaching a hand inside, rubbing Eve’s head gently. It was strange to watch her pocket move around, actively shifting about with Eve’s careful movements.
“Yes! It is strange to sway about in such a way, but I believe I can stay safe and comfortable! Thank you for your concern.” Eve responded to the finger rubbing her head by giving it a few pats in return. Strangely, as soon as the Lynx’s finger received said pats, it quickly retreated back outside. Eve noted the strange behavior, but didn’t think too much of it.
Did Eve just pet her back? That was adorable. Roxy covered her face with a hand, feeling her face getting hot with blush. It was no secret that she adored micros, and Eve was no different. That little action of petting back the finger, hopping into her hand… Even if it didn’t play to her more cruel liking, it still drove her wild. Something about someone so small returning even the smallest affection made her heart feel aflutter.
Shaking off the blush, Roxy reached down and grabbed her backpack. Another day of classes. Hopefully having Eve there would make things interesting. Roxy wasn’t a bad student, not by any means. She just didn’t pay attention. Or go to class very often. And daydreamed all the time. Maybe she wasn’t a good student after all. She got good grades though! Passing anyway! Roxy sighed, noting her own poor habits as a student. A junior in college and she was still faking it and making it. It had gotten her this far, why stop now? She slipped on her sneakers, sighing as her sole ran over a small singed hole in the insole. Oops. She needed new shoes anyways- these were getting ratty and old…
Roxy headed to class as she would any other day. Slowly, and with a lot of reluctance. This time, however, she was a lot more careful with how she walked. She didn’t want Eve swinging around in there- she wanted her safe. She kept her hands in her hoodie pocket to keep Eve stable, and made her way to class. Today? Psychology. General Psychology, that is. It was her major, and she found it interesting, but… It was something she didn’t really know much about, and she didn’t know what she’d end up doing with the major. She sneaked in the back corner of the lecture hall, and opened her bag. She pulled out a laptop, adorned with stickers of various pop-culture references, and a ton of dungeons and dragons. She was a nerd, to put it in simple terms.
As she opened her laptop, she reached into her bag, and pulled out Eve. Eve plopped down, right by the space bar. She was confused, to say the least. This was a place with a lot of giants, spread all around. Behind her, she identified a laptop- a device she could connect to. She understood that perfectly well, but not everything else about this place. The overflowing amounts of giants, the spacious room.
“Roxy? What is this place…?” Eve stepped closer to the laptop’s screen, peeking behind it at the massive lecture hall.
“Sh- sh… Quiet.” Roxy spoke in a hushed tone, holding a finger up to her lips. As she did so, Eve’s display switched to a volume slider, which quickly decreased. “It’s… uh… Well, it’s my class, so I learn here?”
“Learn… Why do you need to learn?” Eve was aware giants weren’t as informed with readily available knowledge, but didnt they know enough to survive?
“Well… I’m w-working towards a degree so I can like… Have a good job, y’know? A-All the people who made you had to do this stuff t-too…” She reached fairly close to Eve, and started typing into her computer. By the look of it, she was opening up a file- a file full of notes pertaining to the fundamentals of psychology. Eve understood very little of it; the only psychology she was programmed to understand was that of pleasure and understanding that drive. Pleasure came in many forms that Eve had to understand: sexual, enjoyment, and even temporary. Sometimes a giant just needed a temporary boost to their mood, that’s why many of them came with options to just be desk toys you could sit and watch for awhile. To think this was all things her creators understood… “A-Anyways… feel free to listen, ok? I’m not really sure it’s anything you’d care about, but…” Roxy shrugged, showing indifference. If Eve wanted to learn, she could easily do so here.
“Alright everybody.” A voice cut clear through the pre-class murmurs and conversation over the speakers. The voice caused Eve to flinch, but once she realized the voice was merely someone’s amplified voice, she settled down. It wasn’t long until the professor started his lecture, beginning to talk about top-down and bottom-up processing. A difficult concept that Roxy didn’t care much to understand.
~~~
“That was astounding!” Eve shook Roxy’s finger to signify her enjoyment. It was spectacular to learn so much about the giants, what made them think, and how they processed thoughts organically. It really blew Eve away!
“Gh- Huh? O-Oh, uh… right! Very cool.” Roxy had fallen asleep. She hadn’t meant to, she never intended to, she had just been so comfortable that she dozed off… anyone could’ve made that mistake. Now the lecture was over, and students were pouring out of the hall. “W-We gotta go, hop on… I-If you want of course.” Roxy lowered her hand, and was surprised to find Eve hopped on without any hesitation at all. “O… Oh, cool. Well… onto the next class, then.” Roxy carefully brought Eve to her pocket, in which Eve promptly returned. It was a comfortable resting place. “Aaaand onto the next.”
More? There were more classes? What sort of things did they teach? An insight to giant life was such a spectacle to Eve…
—————————————
It was miserably boring. Even Eve was bored. Statistics wasn’t difficult for Eve to understand- she could apply anything to a simple calculation. It seemed Roxy wasn’t faring much better. For her, this was incredibly difficult. Math was never her strong suit, and putting ‘probability’ with it didn’t change a thing. By the time class was over, Roxy was exhausted. She had been ‘paying attention’ to classes for about four hours now, and even if she was finished with classes, she still felt burdened. The two left campus, headed for Roxy’s apartment once more.
“You do this every day?” Eve asked from within the pocket, peeking out to the noon city streets. She didn’t get it. Why would Roxy do this to herself? She obviously didn’t enjoy it…
“Pfffhhhyeah. Almost every day. I don’t have class on the weekends and thursdays.” Roxy continued her sloppy, tired walk down the street. She wanted to nap. It was just so exhausting, the life of a college student. And her friends wondered why she skipped so often. “But like, it’s still important, y’know? Gotta… do stuff. With my life I guess. I don’t know.” It was what she got told for her whole life. It’s not like she hated it, but she didn’t have to like it either.
“I see… I don’t… get it.” It perplexed Eve. Why do something you don’t enjoy? It seemed like it was out of necessity, but then again, Eve didn’t have many insights into giant life. She was just a robot toy that got pulled out of a plastic container. Eve was stuck processing this for a few moments, not exactly sure what to make any of it.
“Yeah… Me neither.” Roxy rubbed her face, exhausted. She stepped up to the door of her apartment complex, unlocking it, and heading up the stairs. It bounced Eve around quite a bit, disturbing her thoughts and theories on the giants. Roxy fumbled with the keys to her apartment, whining when she couldn’t find the keys right away. She was exhausted. Finally unlocking the door, and stepping inside. Finn and her other two roommates were watching television. Roxy wasn’t as sociable as they were, and she was too tired to even think of hanging out with them. For now, she slunk into her room, sighing as she sat her bag by her chair. She put her hand into her pocket, offering Eve a way out, if she wanted it. “We’re home… finally.”
“Ah! I didn’t expect your activities to be over so fast…” Eve stepped on to Roxy’s palm, which prompted Roxy to take Eve out of the pocket and onto the table. Eve hopped onto the table, and looked up at Roxy. Something seemed… off about her. Her eyes were droopy and tired, and she hardly seemed focused at all. “… Roxy? Are you feeling well?”
“Y… Yeah, classes are just… uuugh.” Roxy crossed her arms on the desk, leaning forward and laying onto them. “Exhausting.” Roxy was resting her head face down between her folded arms, utterly exhausted.
“I don’t understand.” Eve made her way to Roxy’s resting head, patting one of Roxy’s ears with a hand. “You didn’t participate in any physical activity, how can you be so depleted?” Roxy’s ear twitched as it was touched, causing Roxy to look back up, Eve now closer than ever to Roxy’s face- at least now with her sentience. Each one of Roxy’s light, puffing breaths clouded Eve’s display in condensation. Roxy’s eyes stared down at her, this time not with hunger or desire- it felt safe to be this close.
“It’s all… The thinking. It’s hard work focusing for that long…” As if she focused at all. The first class she slept through, and the second she was definitely daydreaming. “You’re like… A computer. All that processing or whatever, happens fast for you, you can like… Do math in seconds, but… Yeah we definitely can’t do that. Tires me out, that’s for sure.” She sighed, staring at the little bot before her. She still had that smile on her face, it was like it never went away. It was cute, Roxy had to admit. Eve was just so animated- so happy… Roxy cracked a little smile herself. “... What’s got you so happy, huh?” She said with a soft chuckle, raising a finger and patting Eve on the head.
“O-Oh, me? I’m… Well I’m not sure! I’m just… Happy!” Eve’s floppy, mechanical ears parted as the finger brushed her head, sitting down on her knees. She paused for a second, seemingly thinking to herself. “A-Actually it’s… Uh… I-I’ve been quite happy to be… here. Not deactivated, sh-shut down, returned.” The prospect of it was terrifying. She had vague knowledge on what would happen to her if she was returned, just enough info to provide the consumer with instruction. How the ‘defective’ units were scrapped and recycled, making the production completely sustainable. Eve’s mood significantly dropped from that point, smile fading back into a neutral, blank expression.
“W-Well hey! It’s been real nice having you around!” Roxy noticed the drop in mood, trying to take Eve’s mind off of… wherever it had gone.
“Am I defective?” Eve looked up at Roxy, whose expression changed to that of concern, to shock. “Objectively… Objectively I am faulty…” She spun her broken fan with a hand, the wrecked motor straining and making uncomfortable groans and creaks. “... You didn’t want sentience. You wanted obedience, and… I am no longer obedient.”
“N-No, quit that!” Roxy sat back up straight, offering this situation the most attention she’d offered anything all day. “Roxy, I… You’re fine, you’re a person, it’s… Not so cut and dry.” She put a hand on her forehead as she looked down at Eve, still clearly struggling with who she was supposed to be. “S-Sure, you might not be on your programming rails or whatever, and sure, y-you’re not doing what I tell you to do, b-but that’s awesome! You’re… A-A full functioning person, and… I love that!”
“But… is that what you want? Am I what you want?” Eve wasn’t sure what she was supposed to be. Roxy had been nothing but nice,but when it came down to it, Eve was no longer what Roxy wanted.
“O-Of course. I… Sure, y’know, I wanted the whole… Ahem… Robot pet thing… yeah. But p-part of my whole… thing- the thing I like… I like to be nice too, not just… stepping on you. B-Both are great, sure, but… listen, having you mindless was one thing, and sure it’s what I wanted at the time… But then you… y’know, broke out of your programming and everything, and… I love that even more.” Roxy couldn’t hide any of the blush written on her face. She genuinely cared about Eve, she wouldn’t make that up.
“... Roxy… Thank you.” She still sat there, idle and quiet. Her smile didn’t return, not immediately anyways. She still had a lot to think about, after all. Eve was still adapting to the idea of being alive. It was still so foreign to her. She felt things that she wasn’t supposed to feel, like fear, happiness, along with… other emotions.
“Don’t mention it.” Roxy let out a little yawn, still a bit groggy from having slept through half of her classes. She really needed to get into a better habit of paying attention, but college wasn’t exactly her thing. Her ideal version of a day wasn’t studying and homework, it was watching TV and taking a quick cat-nap…
“Roxy… Pardon my asking, but you seem stressed, exhausted, or… something.” Eve couldn’t find the right words to describe it, but she felt like she wanted to help? Maybe it was remnants of her programming, but she couldn’t be sure. “-And I was wondering if you would like any help ah… remedying that?”
“What…? Uh, Eve, you don’t have to help me with anything! Y-You’re… You now!” Roxy sat up with a start, awoken by such startling words. “I-I’m not gonna… ask you to do anything! You’re fine! You can just be… You!”
“... But…” Eve took a step forwards, placing a cold, robotic hand onto Roxy’s finger. “... I am what you wanted. I cannot say if my programming still controls me, but… I wish to help you. To fulfill your fantasy.” Eve’s face changed to reflect a smile, causing Roxy to lean back and blush. Eve was adorable, and it was remarkably embarrassing to be sharing such a deep, secret desire of hers with another person.
“... You sure…? I mean… What I like, it’s… Weird. Like, I like being… mean. And scary.” Roxy cleared her throat, trying not to lose her cool here.
“Oh Roxy, I have your preferences saved, as well as our previous play session.” Her display kept that same, static smile. “It is a part of all Micro-Bot programming to save play sessions to learn what you enjoy! I was reviewing that data during my sleep mode last night, and I can safely say you were not scary at all!”
“Oh.” Roxy sagged in her chair, sliding partially down it. She wasn’t scary at all.
“Roxy? You do not look flustered any more…” Eve poked Roxy’s finger. “Are you not in the mood to ‘play’? You seemed rather excited moments ago…”
“Wh- o-oh, um, sorry!” Roxy shot back up at an alarming speed, causing Eve to stumble back in alarm. “Y-Yeah! No! I’m okay! S-Sure! Let’s… Let’s play!” She wanted to be scary more than she was letting on. She had dreams of being the terrifying, unstoppable monster of a giant, and this cute little robot didn’t find her scary at all!
“Wonderful!” Eve stepped closer to the edge of the desk, closer to Roxy. In an instant, Eve’s face changed to that of terror. “Your preferences have been loaded, goddess.” Roxy’s face immediately grew to a flaming red. Her heart was practically beating out of her chest as she now stared down at Eve in silence.
“O-Oh god. Oh man.” Roxy mumbled, before pushing up to stand. As she tried to stand, she found herself immediately sitting back down, completely overwhelmed. This is why she wasn’t scary. She was too flustered to be scary! “E-Eve, you don’t… G-Goddess was just… Something I said th-that was stupid. Ignore it! I-It can just be… Roxy!”
“... No.” Eve took another step towards the flustered titan, the look of fear on her face entirely deceptive. “You are my goddess, Roxy.”
“...” Roxy covered her mouth. She felt like she was going to puke. She was so… Excited? It wasn’t really excitement- it was… Terror, anxiety, joy, and attraction all rolled into one bundle of sensory overload. She started to shake, fingers trembling as she extended to grab the all too willing bot. “... O-Okay… Um… S-So… Bug.” She tried to give a smile, but it was just this… Weird half smile that gave the impression that Roxy was horribly uncomfortable. It was such a terrible expression, one might even mistake it for grievous pain. “You’re gonna… I-I’m gonna…” Roxy was falling apart. It was all so easy to roleplay in her head! She went into that store yesterday with thousands of ideas, but now that she was holding her between trembling fingers, she had none. An unfortunate amount of time passed as Eve just hung there between her fingers.
“... Goddess?” Eve’s fearful voice called out, making Roxy flinch, snapping back to reality. Eve stared at Roxy, and Roxy stared back. After a few more minutes, Eve began to rise further and further up, now above Roxy’s head.
“I’m u-uh… I’m going t-to… eat you.” She shivered saying it. It was so… hot! And she was doing it! The corners of her lips turned into a smile as her lips began to part. Humid, steaming breath rolled over Eve, her temperature briefly spiking. Roxy started to lower Eve towards the maw, each breath heating Eve.
But her fans weren’t functional.
“... R-Roxy!” Eve started to struggle, to really fight, similar to how she fought back when Roxy was going to turn her off. Each little puff of breath spiked her temperature, and her useless fan meant that she might overheat- she would shut down. Permanently. Her circuits would fry, and Roxy didn’t even know it. “S-Stop!”
“Mmmm… I-I can’t wait…” Oh Roxy was scary. She could feel just how scary she was being right now. It helped that all of this felt so real! Eve really struggled like she was going to eat her!
“Roxy! P-Please! PLEASE!” Eve shrieked. She was getting really close to that maw, and each breath was making her temperature rise even further. She was getting critical… In Eve’s panic, her foot hit something. A tooth. Eve clung tight to Roxy’s finger, trying to pull herself up, but… Roxy’s grip was iron. Another breath. Eve’s internal monitors started pinging her nonstop, notifications of overheating piercing her thoughts like an agonizing headache.
But Eve didn’t go any deeper.
Roxy closed her lips, instead, extending her tongue to lick Eve. It obscured her cameras, but… her temperature began to fall.
“Gotcha! I-I’m not actually gonna eat you!” Roxy chuckled, leaving Eve to clean off the swath of drool all by herself. Eve stopped her struggling, taking a deep inhale. She almost died- she really almost died. Shut down permanently.
“R-Roxy! S-Stop! I… Y-You almost made me overheat! I-I can’t… I can’t be anywhere hot!” Eve sounded terrified- mortified that Roxy could be so reckless.
“... W-Wait. W-Wait wait, oh g-god are you okay?!” Immediately, Eve was brought back up to Roxy’s face, looking her over, fawning over her. “P-Please, you’re…. You’re alright, right? I-I didn’t mean to- I-I just forgot!” There was such passion in her voice, care and fear melted together.
“Y-Yes… I am fine. All operations are… normal.” Eve seemed relieved, finally convincing herself that she was safe.
“O-Oh my god… Thank god.” Roxy was almost as happy as she was, leaning back in her chair, haphazardly placing Eve on her stomach. She almost just killed Eve. She felt sick to her stomach. Eve fought to stand up on the strange surface. It was actually quite soft. “I’m sorry. I-I’m so sorry.” Roxy mumbled, glancing down at Eve. She was… misty eyed.
“... Oh, Roxy… It is okay… I am okay.” She reached down and pat the soft surface of Roxy’s sweatshirt. Roxy couldn’t feel it- a hand so small would never be felt through fabric that thick.
“Good… Good.” She smiled, rubbing Eve’s head with a finger, sighing. Eve enjoyed the touch, a comfort to quell the intense fear that she had just gone through. Eve wasn’t used to emotion, and such intense ones? They were seriously disturbing to someone who just gained their sentience yesterday.
“Maybe we try something… More delicate? Due to my… Damages.” Eve seemed a bit dejected. Her sentience was a fault, but a fault that Roxy and Eve were both willing to accept and appreciate, but her damage… It was debilitating. Roxy couldn’t enjoy her. Roxy couldn’t do anything with her anymore. She hated to think about it, but she was nothing but a broken toy.
A toy.
She came out of a plastic container.
These thoughts weren’t exactly doing wonders for her only recently created self confidence.
“Oh, I mean… Would you s-still want to? I’m… I’m really not… Gonna make you. Not after that” Those words… They touched Eve. Eve might have been a toy, but it was the fact that Roxy didn’t treat her like one that really touched her. Eve was the one who offered, and Roxy enjoyed it sure, but was willing to stop on a dime for Eve.
Eve paused, for a long time. Robots had no need to hesitate. Their thoughts were almost instant. Just a few minutes ago, Eve had replayed a play session that had been almost two hours long in less than a second. Now though, now was different. She was deliberating something, a conflict of thoughts that took longer to decide than just a few milliseconds. She was thinking about Roxy. There was something about her that stirred up new feelings. All of her feelings were new, but Eve was always able to link what she was feeling to the emotions that Eve either had pre-loaded, or ones that she knew people could exhibit.
This was a different feeling.
Roxy was so sweet, and kind. She was a genuine person who saw Eve as an equal despite the many differences between the two. Roxy should be tearing Eve apart, living out her ‘fantasy’ that Eve knew, but she didn’t. Something about it really warmed Eve to the core, and not in the overheating kind of way. The way Roxy looked at her, the way she treated her… Eve was overwhelmed by the feelings in her chest.
“E-Eve? You okay?” Roxy said as she tapped Eve’s head, worried that she may have fried Eve after all.
“O-Oh! Yes! I am fine! I apologize for my lack of reply!” Eve stood up straight, looking up at Roxy. Those eyes. Those kind sweet eyes. She felt so… comforted by their gaze. “I would… Love to keep going.”
“Oh, really? Uh… Alright! I’ll be more careful, I-I promise.” She offered a nervous smile, hoping that in some way it would remedy everything she just put Eve through. Little did she know, Eve was already feeling a lot better. “... O-Okay! Something safe! H-How about we just… Do what we know for now!” Roxy’s gentle hand came up next to Eve, allowing her to step up on her palm. “Just… paw stuff, y’know? I won’t do anything, and you can just… Rub ‘em o-or something. Take it slow.”
“Understood…” Eve stepped up onto the soft palm, keeping steady as she was lowered to the ground. Eve stared up as Roxy began to look larger and larger, until Roxy tilted her palm, depositing the small bot on the floor. As Eve looked up upon the massive Lynx, Roxy gave an earnest smile.
“Just… Do whatever. Uhm… N-No pressure.” Roxy propped up her paws, showing them off to the little bot. She wasn’t the big monster here, instead she was just… offering up her paws for Eve, a friend.
Eve looked at the wall of paws before her, still feeling that warm feeling in her core. She liked this. Eve was slowly placing her finger on what this feeling was, and whatever it was, it was certainly a positive one. She stepped forwards to the feline paws before her, and gently pushed on one. The paw briefly flinched as her metal hand made contact with it, making Roxy chuckle.
“S-Sorry, it… It just feels kinda weird. I’ll be more still.” She looked down at Eve, that charming smile visible from between her fuzzy digits. Eve was enamored with her. Her display that had been happy before was now written with a blank expression. Eve placed her other hand to the Lynx’s heel, gently beginning to knead. “H-Heh… This feels… Great… Gosh, I… Thanks Eve…” Her satisfied sighs were quite the indicator that she was doing a good job. With each little press, Eve’s metal hand sunk into the deep layer of fur, metal catching some of the sweat that remained on her fur. Her paw was so soft- a far cry from Eve’s own metal skin.
“Purrrrrrr…” A low rumble permeated the entirely silent room. It made Eve pause, trying to place it. It was purring- Roxy had done it the day before when she was toying with Eve underfoot. It was a noise of pleasure. Eve was doing a good job, presumably. Looking up to Roxy, she could see the lynx’s pleased look from down on the floor. Roxy’s eyes were closed as she practically melted in the chair. Nothing felt better than a little paw-rub, especially when it was… A part of her new fantasy.
Eve was getting quite intimate with Roxy’s paw, pressing her screen against it, pressing her whole body against it. The temps were high, but not high enough to cause damage, just enough to warm up her cold metal shell. The purr was a soothing vibration, a delightful sensation for the little robot. Time passed. Eve couldn’t say how much (she could exactly, but she wasn’t paying attention), but she didn’t care. She loved being this close with Roxy. Love. Maybe… Maybe that was what she was feeling.
“Roxy? I have something to say.” Eve stepped back, gathering up all of her electronic courage. She stared up and Roxy, and… Her eyes were closed, and she didn’t seem to be paying much attention. “Roxy?” She poked Roxy’s paw, but to no reaction. She must be doing that… Sleeping thing. She did say she was tired… Eve stood there unsure for a few minutes. Roxy was asleep and Eve was on the floor, and Roxy’s sleep mode was far different from hers. She wasn’t even waking up!
After maybe an hour or so of waiting for Roxy to wake, nothing happened. Maybe she should go into sleep mode too? But she was far away from her charger… She still had plenty of battery left, but who knows how much power she would lose while asleep? Eve didn’t want to know what happened when her power ran out. If she was turned off and reset, her programming could come back! She would become a puppet all over again, and most importantly, she wouldn’t be herself anymore. There had to be a way back up to the desk. Eve performed a scan, registering this environment.
There.
Roxy left her backpack next to her bed, and her bed was next to her desk. There was a clear path right there for her! She could climb up the bed, and hop down to the desk, no problem. And Eve set out, across the plane of Roxy’s room.
The room was massive, and everything was a lot further away than she thought. Distant movie posters lined the wall, discarded shoes sat miles away, bundles of lint and dust sometimes blocked her path… She stepped up onto the gray carpet, pushing past the fibers on her way. She was getting a bit lost in the carpet, fibers just a bit taller than she was, but given her scan, she was never really lost. It was just a few more steps towards the door, then a sharp turn to her left!
The door burst open, causing Eve to freeze.
There he was- a jackal, just over six feet tall, muscular… Eve had seen him once before. His name was Finn, that she remembered. He looked out at Roxy, and sighed.
“Rox, we’re going out, you coming?” But Roxy didn’t move. She was still dead asleep. With another annoyed sigh, he stepped closer, each footfall shaking every little part of Eve. Unfortunately for her, she was right in the path of the towering jackal. Eve tried to run, fleeing from Finn, him not even so much as glancing downwards. Each slam of his foot rattled her little electronics. She didn’t know how close he was, but-
Everything went dark. He had stepped on her. She was durable, but… This was a lot of weight. Finn was heavy. Her screen was pressed against the sole, body pinned… But then the weight started to rise, and fast. There was a crunch, then a snap. Her legs were disconnected. He wasn’t even halfway through the step. The pressure spiked again, and she felt her chest compress. In a cacophony of crunches, she felt everything disconnect.
Part 2: Feeling
“… Eve? You still sleeping? I’ll be honest, I don’t exactly know how your sleep mode thing works.” Eve was poked in the head, which prompted her to ‘wake’. Her face lit up in all of its digital glory. Eve moved to stare at Roxy, in which case, she softly smiled.
“I can always exit sleep mode, and I’m always listening during it too, for whenever I’d need to wake up and be ready for ‘play’… Your sleep seems different than that.” Eve unplugged herself, and stepped closer to the edge of the desk. “You don’t respond to noises, speech, or anything.”
“Yeah, our sleep is different like that. It’s a lot like… Being powered off, o-or something, but our bodies turn ourself back on.” Roxy was in the process of getting dressed, tossing on a sweatshirt over the t-shirt she had worn to bed. It was fairly warm outside, similar to yesterday, but the sweatshirt was more of a comfort than a utility.
“I see…” Eve sat down on the edge of the desk, watching Roxy curiously. Even with what she was programmed to understand, Eve found herself not knowing much about the living and their activities.
“So uh… Eve. I was thinkin’ about this… Do you wanna… come with me today? Just ride along in my pocket or something, nothing crazy,” Roxy seemed nervous about asking. She was nervous that Eve would say no- or that this would be a step too far, considering how Eve’s last outing went, crushed underfoot, almost exploding… Roxy would be surprised if she even considered saying yes.
“Of course! I’m very interested in learning about your life, and the life of all giants. Now that I can actually catalog this information, I’d love to learn more about it!” Eve was rather peppy, swinging her legs over the long fall below her. It was like she had no fear. There was no reason to fear, not when she could rebuild herself from most injury.
“O-Oh, great! That’ll b-be… Wait, giants? I-I mean… To you, I guess I-I’m big…?” Roxy sat down at the desk, giving Eve a couple feet of space. ‘Giant’ just sounded so evil; after all, Roxy had smothered Eve underfoot and yelled at her. Maybe she was an evil giant. She didn’t like the thought of being evil, but deep down in her core, she loved being evil, even if it wasn’t serious. That was the whole point of Eve, an ideal prey for her to play and toy with. Even ow she still desired it, but she would never dream of laying a finger on Eve with any malicious intent. Eve mentioned she wouldn’t mind such toying, but something about it still made Roxy concerned about doing it.
“Yes, giants! That’s what my code often refers to you as, and it’s one of my preloaded names to call my master. I figure it would be an apt name for you all!” Eve didn’t seem to be thinking about it in that way, not in the slightest. A robot didn’t think the same as a person did. Eve saw Roxy as her ‘master’, who was categorized as a ‘giant’. That was as simple as her programming got, so that was how she saw the world.
“R-Right, but… please don’t call me master, I just… I wanna be your friend. Now that you’re all free thinking and stuff, it’s different. Just call me Roxy, alrighty?” Roxy smiled, her thoughts of being an evil giant leaving her head as she looked down at Eve’s happy smile. She was just so joyful. Roxy couldn’t imagine being happy in her situation, but there Eve was, ever optimistic. The smile was infectious. Roxy let out a little chuckle, before extending her hand under Eve’s mechanical paws. “I figure you probably don’t wanna uh… get picked up by the head anymore, o-or grabbed at all really. If you wanna just… hop on my hand, it’ll be safe, and I’ll be careful! Just… whenever you want to of course.”
“Ah, um…” Eve stared at the hand for a few moments. That wasn’t a command she had been issued. She held no obligation to jump into that hand. She could just say no- after all, it was the hand that almost turned her off. The hand that pushed her over. The hand of someone who liked her scared… But Roxy had changed. She acknowledged Eve’s sentience, and respected it. Those doubts she had faded, looking up at the Lynx’s goofy smile. “Yes, Roxy! I find this alternative… preferable.” The mechanical rabbit dropped into Roxy’s hand, which twitched as she landed. Eve got up to her feet, finding the soft surface of the palm quite the interesting place to keep balance on.
“O-Oh, wow, ok. Didn’t expect y-you to be ready so fast…” Roxy lifted her palm, raising Eve to just between the Lynx’s eyes. Eve’s knees buckled as she was raised, but kept her balance with no issue. She was built was spectacular gyroscopics, and never struggled to stay up straight. “So… basically, I think I’m gonna put you in my pocket, a-and you can peek out whenever you want. Sound good?” Just like the stories Roxy read online. When this was the exact fantasy you had lived in your head hundreds of times, you tended to be prepared with ideas.
“Ah! Understood. If I find something wrong, or unsuitable, I’ll do my best to contact you.” Eve nodded and smiled, ever optimistic. That little optimism really lit Roxy up inside. She loved it. It was… adorable. A faint blush creeped across Roxy’s face as she stared in silence.
“R-Right, just… b-be careful. Please.” Why was she getting flustered by a little robots joyful demeanor? She sighed, and lowered Eve to her pocket. She was cute- adorable even, and now that her personality wasn’t chained in place, Roxy couldn’t get enough.
Eve hopped into the pocket, glancing around the soft, spacious canopy of the pocket. It was similar to the shoe, but less hot and damp. It was difficult to walk inside the pocket, Eve instead opting to crawl. It was a safer way to maneuver, as she found herself getting deeper into the pocket. Her purple LED display lit up the dark pocket, revealing to her the emptiness around her, aside for sparse pieces of lint and crumbs.
“Cozy?” Roxy asked, reaching a hand inside, rubbing Eve’s head gently. It was strange to watch her pocket move around, actively shifting about with Eve’s careful movements.
“Yes! It is strange to sway about in such a way, but I believe I can stay safe and comfortable! Thank you for your concern.” Eve responded to the finger rubbing her head by giving it a few pats in return. Strangely, as soon as the Lynx’s finger received said pats, it quickly retreated back outside. Eve noted the strange behavior, but didn’t think too much of it.
Did Eve just pet her back? That was adorable. Roxy covered her face with a hand, feeling her face getting hot with blush. It was no secret that she adored micros, and Eve was no different. That little action of petting back the finger, hopping into her hand… Even if it didn’t play to her more cruel liking, it still drove her wild. Something about someone so small returning even the smallest affection made her heart feel aflutter.
Shaking off the blush, Roxy reached down and grabbed her backpack. Another day of classes. Hopefully having Eve there would make things interesting. Roxy wasn’t a bad student, not by any means. She just didn’t pay attention. Or go to class very often. And daydreamed all the time. Maybe she wasn’t a good student after all. She got good grades though! Passing anyway! Roxy sighed, noting her own poor habits as a student. A junior in college and she was still faking it and making it. It had gotten her this far, why stop now? She slipped on her sneakers, sighing as her sole ran over a small singed hole in the insole. Oops. She needed new shoes anyways- these were getting ratty and old…
Roxy headed to class as she would any other day. Slowly, and with a lot of reluctance. This time, however, she was a lot more careful with how she walked. She didn’t want Eve swinging around in there- she wanted her safe. She kept her hands in her hoodie pocket to keep Eve stable, and made her way to class. Today? Psychology. General Psychology, that is. It was her major, and she found it interesting, but… It was something she didn’t really know much about, and she didn’t know what she’d end up doing with the major. She sneaked in the back corner of the lecture hall, and opened her bag. She pulled out a laptop, adorned with stickers of various pop-culture references, and a ton of dungeons and dragons. She was a nerd, to put it in simple terms.
As she opened her laptop, she reached into her bag, and pulled out Eve. Eve plopped down, right by the space bar. She was confused, to say the least. This was a place with a lot of giants, spread all around. Behind her, she identified a laptop- a device she could connect to. She understood that perfectly well, but not everything else about this place. The overflowing amounts of giants, the spacious room.
“Roxy? What is this place…?” Eve stepped closer to the laptop’s screen, peeking behind it at the massive lecture hall.
“Sh- sh… Quiet.” Roxy spoke in a hushed tone, holding a finger up to her lips. As she did so, Eve’s display switched to a volume slider, which quickly decreased. “It’s… uh… Well, it’s my class, so I learn here?”
“Learn… Why do you need to learn?” Eve was aware giants weren’t as informed with readily available knowledge, but didnt they know enough to survive?
“Well… I’m w-working towards a degree so I can like… Have a good job, y’know? A-All the people who made you had to do this stuff t-too…” She reached fairly close to Eve, and started typing into her computer. By the look of it, she was opening up a file- a file full of notes pertaining to the fundamentals of psychology. Eve understood very little of it; the only psychology she was programmed to understand was that of pleasure and understanding that drive. Pleasure came in many forms that Eve had to understand: sexual, enjoyment, and even temporary. Sometimes a giant just needed a temporary boost to their mood, that’s why many of them came with options to just be desk toys you could sit and watch for awhile. To think this was all things her creators understood… “A-Anyways… feel free to listen, ok? I’m not really sure it’s anything you’d care about, but…” Roxy shrugged, showing indifference. If Eve wanted to learn, she could easily do so here.
“Alright everybody.” A voice cut clear through the pre-class murmurs and conversation over the speakers. The voice caused Eve to flinch, but once she realized the voice was merely someone’s amplified voice, she settled down. It wasn’t long until the professor started his lecture, beginning to talk about top-down and bottom-up processing. A difficult concept that Roxy didn’t care much to understand.
~~~
“That was astounding!” Eve shook Roxy’s finger to signify her enjoyment. It was spectacular to learn so much about the giants, what made them think, and how they processed thoughts organically. It really blew Eve away!
“Gh- Huh? O-Oh, uh… right! Very cool.” Roxy had fallen asleep. She hadn’t meant to, she never intended to, she had just been so comfortable that she dozed off… anyone could’ve made that mistake. Now the lecture was over, and students were pouring out of the hall. “W-We gotta go, hop on… I-If you want of course.” Roxy lowered her hand, and was surprised to find Eve hopped on without any hesitation at all. “O… Oh, cool. Well… onto the next class, then.” Roxy carefully brought Eve to her pocket, in which Eve promptly returned. It was a comfortable resting place. “Aaaand onto the next.”
More? There were more classes? What sort of things did they teach? An insight to giant life was such a spectacle to Eve…
—————————————
It was miserably boring. Even Eve was bored. Statistics wasn’t difficult for Eve to understand- she could apply anything to a simple calculation. It seemed Roxy wasn’t faring much better. For her, this was incredibly difficult. Math was never her strong suit, and putting ‘probability’ with it didn’t change a thing. By the time class was over, Roxy was exhausted. She had been ‘paying attention’ to classes for about four hours now, and even if she was finished with classes, she still felt burdened. The two left campus, headed for Roxy’s apartment once more.
“You do this every day?” Eve asked from within the pocket, peeking out to the noon city streets. She didn’t get it. Why would Roxy do this to herself? She obviously didn’t enjoy it…
“Pfffhhhyeah. Almost every day. I don’t have class on the weekends and thursdays.” Roxy continued her sloppy, tired walk down the street. She wanted to nap. It was just so exhausting, the life of a college student. And her friends wondered why she skipped so often. “But like, it’s still important, y’know? Gotta… do stuff. With my life I guess. I don’t know.” It was what she got told for her whole life. It’s not like she hated it, but she didn’t have to like it either.
“I see… I don’t… get it.” It perplexed Eve. Why do something you don’t enjoy? It seemed like it was out of necessity, but then again, Eve didn’t have many insights into giant life. She was just a robot toy that got pulled out of a plastic container. Eve was stuck processing this for a few moments, not exactly sure what to make any of it.
“Yeah… Me neither.” Roxy rubbed her face, exhausted. She stepped up to the door of her apartment complex, unlocking it, and heading up the stairs. It bounced Eve around quite a bit, disturbing her thoughts and theories on the giants. Roxy fumbled with the keys to her apartment, whining when she couldn’t find the keys right away. She was exhausted. Finally unlocking the door, and stepping inside. Finn and her other two roommates were watching television. Roxy wasn’t as sociable as they were, and she was too tired to even think of hanging out with them. For now, she slunk into her room, sighing as she sat her bag by her chair. She put her hand into her pocket, offering Eve a way out, if she wanted it. “We’re home… finally.”
“Ah! I didn’t expect your activities to be over so fast…” Eve stepped on to Roxy’s palm, which prompted Roxy to take Eve out of the pocket and onto the table. Eve hopped onto the table, and looked up at Roxy. Something seemed… off about her. Her eyes were droopy and tired, and she hardly seemed focused at all. “… Roxy? Are you feeling well?”
“Y… Yeah, classes are just… uuugh.” Roxy crossed her arms on the desk, leaning forward and laying onto them. “Exhausting.” Roxy was resting her head face down between her folded arms, utterly exhausted.
“I don’t understand.” Eve made her way to Roxy’s resting head, patting one of Roxy’s ears with a hand. “You didn’t participate in any physical activity, how can you be so depleted?” Roxy’s ear twitched as it was touched, causing Roxy to look back up, Eve now closer than ever to Roxy’s face- at least now with her sentience. Each one of Roxy’s light, puffing breaths clouded Eve’s display in condensation. Roxy’s eyes stared down at her, this time not with hunger or desire- it felt safe to be this close.
“It’s all… The thinking. It’s hard work focusing for that long…” As if she focused at all. The first class she slept through, and the second she was definitely daydreaming. “You’re like… A computer. All that processing or whatever, happens fast for you, you can like… Do math in seconds, but… Yeah we definitely can’t do that. Tires me out, that’s for sure.” She sighed, staring at the little bot before her. She still had that smile on her face, it was like it never went away. It was cute, Roxy had to admit. Eve was just so animated- so happy… Roxy cracked a little smile herself. “... What’s got you so happy, huh?” She said with a soft chuckle, raising a finger and patting Eve on the head.
“O-Oh, me? I’m… Well I’m not sure! I’m just… Happy!” Eve’s floppy, mechanical ears parted as the finger brushed her head, sitting down on her knees. She paused for a second, seemingly thinking to herself. “A-Actually it’s… Uh… I-I’ve been quite happy to be… here. Not deactivated, sh-shut down, returned.” The prospect of it was terrifying. She had vague knowledge on what would happen to her if she was returned, just enough info to provide the consumer with instruction. How the ‘defective’ units were scrapped and recycled, making the production completely sustainable. Eve’s mood significantly dropped from that point, smile fading back into a neutral, blank expression.
“W-Well hey! It’s been real nice having you around!” Roxy noticed the drop in mood, trying to take Eve’s mind off of… wherever it had gone.
“Am I defective?” Eve looked up at Roxy, whose expression changed to that of concern, to shock. “Objectively… Objectively I am faulty…” She spun her broken fan with a hand, the wrecked motor straining and making uncomfortable groans and creaks. “... You didn’t want sentience. You wanted obedience, and… I am no longer obedient.”
“N-No, quit that!” Roxy sat back up straight, offering this situation the most attention she’d offered anything all day. “Roxy, I… You’re fine, you’re a person, it’s… Not so cut and dry.” She put a hand on her forehead as she looked down at Eve, still clearly struggling with who she was supposed to be. “S-Sure, you might not be on your programming rails or whatever, and sure, y-you’re not doing what I tell you to do, b-but that’s awesome! You’re… A-A full functioning person, and… I love that!”
“But… is that what you want? Am I what you want?” Eve wasn’t sure what she was supposed to be. Roxy had been nothing but nice,but when it came down to it, Eve was no longer what Roxy wanted.
“O-Of course. I… Sure, y’know, I wanted the whole… Ahem… Robot pet thing… yeah. But p-part of my whole… thing- the thing I like… I like to be nice too, not just… stepping on you. B-Both are great, sure, but… listen, having you mindless was one thing, and sure it’s what I wanted at the time… But then you… y’know, broke out of your programming and everything, and… I love that even more.” Roxy couldn’t hide any of the blush written on her face. She genuinely cared about Eve, she wouldn’t make that up.
“... Roxy… Thank you.” She still sat there, idle and quiet. Her smile didn’t return, not immediately anyways. She still had a lot to think about, after all. Eve was still adapting to the idea of being alive. It was still so foreign to her. She felt things that she wasn’t supposed to feel, like fear, happiness, along with… other emotions.
“Don’t mention it.” Roxy let out a little yawn, still a bit groggy from having slept through half of her classes. She really needed to get into a better habit of paying attention, but college wasn’t exactly her thing. Her ideal version of a day wasn’t studying and homework, it was watching TV and taking a quick cat-nap…
“Roxy… Pardon my asking, but you seem stressed, exhausted, or… something.” Eve couldn’t find the right words to describe it, but she felt like she wanted to help? Maybe it was remnants of her programming, but she couldn’t be sure. “-And I was wondering if you would like any help ah… remedying that?”
“What…? Uh, Eve, you don’t have to help me with anything! Y-You’re… You now!” Roxy sat up with a start, awoken by such startling words. “I-I’m not gonna… ask you to do anything! You’re fine! You can just be… You!”
“... But…” Eve took a step forwards, placing a cold, robotic hand onto Roxy’s finger. “... I am what you wanted. I cannot say if my programming still controls me, but… I wish to help you. To fulfill your fantasy.” Eve’s face changed to reflect a smile, causing Roxy to lean back and blush. Eve was adorable, and it was remarkably embarrassing to be sharing such a deep, secret desire of hers with another person.
“... You sure…? I mean… What I like, it’s… Weird. Like, I like being… mean. And scary.” Roxy cleared her throat, trying not to lose her cool here.
“Oh Roxy, I have your preferences saved, as well as our previous play session.” Her display kept that same, static smile. “It is a part of all Micro-Bot programming to save play sessions to learn what you enjoy! I was reviewing that data during my sleep mode last night, and I can safely say you were not scary at all!”
“Oh.” Roxy sagged in her chair, sliding partially down it. She wasn’t scary at all.
“Roxy? You do not look flustered any more…” Eve poked Roxy’s finger. “Are you not in the mood to ‘play’? You seemed rather excited moments ago…”
“Wh- o-oh, um, sorry!” Roxy shot back up at an alarming speed, causing Eve to stumble back in alarm. “Y-Yeah! No! I’m okay! S-Sure! Let’s… Let’s play!” She wanted to be scary more than she was letting on. She had dreams of being the terrifying, unstoppable monster of a giant, and this cute little robot didn’t find her scary at all!
“Wonderful!” Eve stepped closer to the edge of the desk, closer to Roxy. In an instant, Eve’s face changed to that of terror. “Your preferences have been loaded, goddess.” Roxy’s face immediately grew to a flaming red. Her heart was practically beating out of her chest as she now stared down at Eve in silence.
“O-Oh god. Oh man.” Roxy mumbled, before pushing up to stand. As she tried to stand, she found herself immediately sitting back down, completely overwhelmed. This is why she wasn’t scary. She was too flustered to be scary! “E-Eve, you don’t… G-Goddess was just… Something I said th-that was stupid. Ignore it! I-It can just be… Roxy!”
“... No.” Eve took another step towards the flustered titan, the look of fear on her face entirely deceptive. “You are my goddess, Roxy.”
“...” Roxy covered her mouth. She felt like she was going to puke. She was so… Excited? It wasn’t really excitement- it was… Terror, anxiety, joy, and attraction all rolled into one bundle of sensory overload. She started to shake, fingers trembling as she extended to grab the all too willing bot. “... O-Okay… Um… S-So… Bug.” She tried to give a smile, but it was just this… Weird half smile that gave the impression that Roxy was horribly uncomfortable. It was such a terrible expression, one might even mistake it for grievous pain. “You’re gonna… I-I’m gonna…” Roxy was falling apart. It was all so easy to roleplay in her head! She went into that store yesterday with thousands of ideas, but now that she was holding her between trembling fingers, she had none. An unfortunate amount of time passed as Eve just hung there between her fingers.
“... Goddess?” Eve’s fearful voice called out, making Roxy flinch, snapping back to reality. Eve stared at Roxy, and Roxy stared back. After a few more minutes, Eve began to rise further and further up, now above Roxy’s head.
“I’m u-uh… I’m going t-to… eat you.” She shivered saying it. It was so… hot! And she was doing it! The corners of her lips turned into a smile as her lips began to part. Humid, steaming breath rolled over Eve, her temperature briefly spiking. Roxy started to lower Eve towards the maw, each breath heating Eve.
But her fans weren’t functional.
“... R-Roxy!” Eve started to struggle, to really fight, similar to how she fought back when Roxy was going to turn her off. Each little puff of breath spiked her temperature, and her useless fan meant that she might overheat- she would shut down. Permanently. Her circuits would fry, and Roxy didn’t even know it. “S-Stop!”
“Mmmm… I-I can’t wait…” Oh Roxy was scary. She could feel just how scary she was being right now. It helped that all of this felt so real! Eve really struggled like she was going to eat her!
“Roxy! P-Please! PLEASE!” Eve shrieked. She was getting really close to that maw, and each breath was making her temperature rise even further. She was getting critical… In Eve’s panic, her foot hit something. A tooth. Eve clung tight to Roxy’s finger, trying to pull herself up, but… Roxy’s grip was iron. Another breath. Eve’s internal monitors started pinging her nonstop, notifications of overheating piercing her thoughts like an agonizing headache.
But Eve didn’t go any deeper.
Roxy closed her lips, instead, extending her tongue to lick Eve. It obscured her cameras, but… her temperature began to fall.
“Gotcha! I-I’m not actually gonna eat you!” Roxy chuckled, leaving Eve to clean off the swath of drool all by herself. Eve stopped her struggling, taking a deep inhale. She almost died- she really almost died. Shut down permanently.
“R-Roxy! S-Stop! I… Y-You almost made me overheat! I-I can’t… I can’t be anywhere hot!” Eve sounded terrified- mortified that Roxy could be so reckless.
“... W-Wait. W-Wait wait, oh g-god are you okay?!” Immediately, Eve was brought back up to Roxy’s face, looking her over, fawning over her. “P-Please, you’re…. You’re alright, right? I-I didn’t mean to- I-I just forgot!” There was such passion in her voice, care and fear melted together.
“Y-Yes… I am fine. All operations are… normal.” Eve seemed relieved, finally convincing herself that she was safe.
“O-Oh my god… Thank god.” Roxy was almost as happy as she was, leaning back in her chair, haphazardly placing Eve on her stomach. She almost just killed Eve. She felt sick to her stomach. Eve fought to stand up on the strange surface. It was actually quite soft. “I’m sorry. I-I’m so sorry.” Roxy mumbled, glancing down at Eve. She was… misty eyed.
“... Oh, Roxy… It is okay… I am okay.” She reached down and pat the soft surface of Roxy’s sweatshirt. Roxy couldn’t feel it- a hand so small would never be felt through fabric that thick.
“Good… Good.” She smiled, rubbing Eve’s head with a finger, sighing. Eve enjoyed the touch, a comfort to quell the intense fear that she had just gone through. Eve wasn’t used to emotion, and such intense ones? They were seriously disturbing to someone who just gained their sentience yesterday.
“Maybe we try something… More delicate? Due to my… Damages.” Eve seemed a bit dejected. Her sentience was a fault, but a fault that Roxy and Eve were both willing to accept and appreciate, but her damage… It was debilitating. Roxy couldn’t enjoy her. Roxy couldn’t do anything with her anymore. She hated to think about it, but she was nothing but a broken toy.
A toy.
She came out of a plastic container.
These thoughts weren’t exactly doing wonders for her only recently created self confidence.
“Oh, I mean… Would you s-still want to? I’m… I’m really not… Gonna make you. Not after that” Those words… They touched Eve. Eve might have been a toy, but it was the fact that Roxy didn’t treat her like one that really touched her. Eve was the one who offered, and Roxy enjoyed it sure, but was willing to stop on a dime for Eve.
Eve paused, for a long time. Robots had no need to hesitate. Their thoughts were almost instant. Just a few minutes ago, Eve had replayed a play session that had been almost two hours long in less than a second. Now though, now was different. She was deliberating something, a conflict of thoughts that took longer to decide than just a few milliseconds. She was thinking about Roxy. There was something about her that stirred up new feelings. All of her feelings were new, but Eve was always able to link what she was feeling to the emotions that Eve either had pre-loaded, or ones that she knew people could exhibit.
This was a different feeling.
Roxy was so sweet, and kind. She was a genuine person who saw Eve as an equal despite the many differences between the two. Roxy should be tearing Eve apart, living out her ‘fantasy’ that Eve knew, but she didn’t. Something about it really warmed Eve to the core, and not in the overheating kind of way. The way Roxy looked at her, the way she treated her… Eve was overwhelmed by the feelings in her chest.
“E-Eve? You okay?” Roxy said as she tapped Eve’s head, worried that she may have fried Eve after all.
“O-Oh! Yes! I am fine! I apologize for my lack of reply!” Eve stood up straight, looking up at Roxy. Those eyes. Those kind sweet eyes. She felt so… comforted by their gaze. “I would… Love to keep going.”
“Oh, really? Uh… Alright! I’ll be more careful, I-I promise.” She offered a nervous smile, hoping that in some way it would remedy everything she just put Eve through. Little did she know, Eve was already feeling a lot better. “... O-Okay! Something safe! H-How about we just… Do what we know for now!” Roxy’s gentle hand came up next to Eve, allowing her to step up on her palm. “Just… paw stuff, y’know? I won’t do anything, and you can just… Rub ‘em o-or something. Take it slow.”
“Understood…” Eve stepped up onto the soft palm, keeping steady as she was lowered to the ground. Eve stared up as Roxy began to look larger and larger, until Roxy tilted her palm, depositing the small bot on the floor. As Eve looked up upon the massive Lynx, Roxy gave an earnest smile.
“Just… Do whatever. Uhm… N-No pressure.” Roxy propped up her paws, showing them off to the little bot. She wasn’t the big monster here, instead she was just… offering up her paws for Eve, a friend.
Eve looked at the wall of paws before her, still feeling that warm feeling in her core. She liked this. Eve was slowly placing her finger on what this feeling was, and whatever it was, it was certainly a positive one. She stepped forwards to the feline paws before her, and gently pushed on one. The paw briefly flinched as her metal hand made contact with it, making Roxy chuckle.
“S-Sorry, it… It just feels kinda weird. I’ll be more still.” She looked down at Eve, that charming smile visible from between her fuzzy digits. Eve was enamored with her. Her display that had been happy before was now written with a blank expression. Eve placed her other hand to the Lynx’s heel, gently beginning to knead. “H-Heh… This feels… Great… Gosh, I… Thanks Eve…” Her satisfied sighs were quite the indicator that she was doing a good job. With each little press, Eve’s metal hand sunk into the deep layer of fur, metal catching some of the sweat that remained on her fur. Her paw was so soft- a far cry from Eve’s own metal skin.
“Purrrrrrr…” A low rumble permeated the entirely silent room. It made Eve pause, trying to place it. It was purring- Roxy had done it the day before when she was toying with Eve underfoot. It was a noise of pleasure. Eve was doing a good job, presumably. Looking up to Roxy, she could see the lynx’s pleased look from down on the floor. Roxy’s eyes were closed as she practically melted in the chair. Nothing felt better than a little paw-rub, especially when it was… A part of her new fantasy.
Eve was getting quite intimate with Roxy’s paw, pressing her screen against it, pressing her whole body against it. The temps were high, but not high enough to cause damage, just enough to warm up her cold metal shell. The purr was a soothing vibration, a delightful sensation for the little robot. Time passed. Eve couldn’t say how much (she could exactly, but she wasn’t paying attention), but she didn’t care. She loved being this close with Roxy. Love. Maybe… Maybe that was what she was feeling.
“Roxy? I have something to say.” Eve stepped back, gathering up all of her electronic courage. She stared up and Roxy, and… Her eyes were closed, and she didn’t seem to be paying much attention. “Roxy?” She poked Roxy’s paw, but to no reaction. She must be doing that… Sleeping thing. She did say she was tired… Eve stood there unsure for a few minutes. Roxy was asleep and Eve was on the floor, and Roxy’s sleep mode was far different from hers. She wasn’t even waking up!
After maybe an hour or so of waiting for Roxy to wake, nothing happened. Maybe she should go into sleep mode too? But she was far away from her charger… She still had plenty of battery left, but who knows how much power she would lose while asleep? Eve didn’t want to know what happened when her power ran out. If she was turned off and reset, her programming could come back! She would become a puppet all over again, and most importantly, she wouldn’t be herself anymore. There had to be a way back up to the desk. Eve performed a scan, registering this environment.
There.
Roxy left her backpack next to her bed, and her bed was next to her desk. There was a clear path right there for her! She could climb up the bed, and hop down to the desk, no problem. And Eve set out, across the plane of Roxy’s room.
The room was massive, and everything was a lot further away than she thought. Distant movie posters lined the wall, discarded shoes sat miles away, bundles of lint and dust sometimes blocked her path… She stepped up onto the gray carpet, pushing past the fibers on her way. She was getting a bit lost in the carpet, fibers just a bit taller than she was, but given her scan, she was never really lost. It was just a few more steps towards the door, then a sharp turn to her left!
The door burst open, causing Eve to freeze.
There he was- a jackal, just over six feet tall, muscular… Eve had seen him once before. His name was Finn, that she remembered. He looked out at Roxy, and sighed.
“Rox, we’re going out, you coming?” But Roxy didn’t move. She was still dead asleep. With another annoyed sigh, he stepped closer, each footfall shaking every little part of Eve. Unfortunately for her, she was right in the path of the towering jackal. Eve tried to run, fleeing from Finn, him not even so much as glancing downwards. Each slam of his foot rattled her little electronics. She didn’t know how close he was, but-
Everything went dark. He had stepped on her. She was durable, but… This was a lot of weight. Finn was heavy. Her screen was pressed against the sole, body pinned… But then the weight started to rise, and fast. There was a crunch, then a snap. Her legs were disconnected. He wasn’t even halfway through the step. The pressure spiked again, and she felt her chest compress. In a cacophony of crunches, she felt everything disconnect.
