His name is Tink.
Requiem has always been a backwater town of a planet, but there is always work to do... recognized or otherwise. The secrets of near-and-beyond light-speed travel were believed lost after the great calamity, though orbital flights remained common among the scientific community. As it turns out, even scientists need someone who can turn a wrench in tight spaces.
Tink has worked in aviation for a long time, even getting in with one of the orbital crews.
There he was given the opportunity to undergo biological enhancement surgery:
- His lungs only absorb what he needs, he can inhale airborne toxins with no ill effects.
- His digestive system has been hardened, he can survive eating things others cannot keep down.
- They even put in specially grown muscles so he can contract his skin to become his own pressure vessel... given an air tank and respirator he can go on spacewalks with no fancy suit, and has done so on several occasions.
- A few months ago the neurology department ran a voluntary experiment on several people with mostly positive results. Once Tink has prepared for sleep he can fall asleep in seconds, dream more readily, and awake more refreshed than ever before in half the time. Though the mages warned him that such an experiment would apply a curse, Tink has no care for magic and being somewhat less lucky doesn't matter to him, knowledge and skill are his desires.
When the space-faring technologies were recovered the sciences were brought together to answer the call of the stars. Our ship is called The Arcadia (100% ripped from Destiny 1, but on a bigger scale), she's got 2 massive engines and 3 large maneuvering thrusters, frightfully fast while also being uncannily nimble. She's got 3 main internal levels as well as an underslung bar and smoking lounge which for some reason is themed from the airships of old. The baby grand is a nice touch, Tink doesn't know how to play himself but if someone starts banging on it he'll probably be there to enjoy it.
One of his crew is another reptillian whose tail is prehensile. Tink has been watching and pondering, if chance takes them by a cybernetic augmentation facility he may be exchanging his stubby flesh tail for a long shiny metallic one, perhaps with a grapple for spacewalks, there are... possibilities.
They've been at it for maybe a week now, gotten lost at least 3 times, nearly been eaten by giant mammalian mosquitos, and most recently being present for the demise of the most boring "pirates" to sail the skies... they did give Arcadia some defense weapons though so I won't say too much rude about them. Now we've landed on some jungle planet who knows where...

All this is for a new tabletop game invented by an xbox friend in 2 nights. Still a work in progress. We'd been doing Monster of the Week on the weekends but now we're giving this a go and so far it's quite fun.
