The most common animal family on Veridios is the Veriturpiscis (Turtlefish). The turtle part of their name comes from their rigid and round body structure. They are slow moving filter feeders who gain most of their energy from the leaf like protrusions that grow off their backs. They use their mouthparts to eat plankton and scavenge the dead for nutrients, however they are incapable of biting living organisms. They are very curious by nature and will often swim up to you to investigate. They don't seem very smart, however they are very friendly and enjoy pats.
Deep sea Turtlefish are often black, white, or transparent, and are covered in long feelers so they can feel their way around their dark environment.
There is one species of Turtlefish which has conquered the land. Known as Trufflets or by their joke name, Land sea pigs, they are amphibious in nature, but can bury themselves in mud and live for years without moving out of that spot. Their gills have become more akin to the huge fungus that grows on the land of Veridios, and it is thought that they use these to obtain energy from the soil. They do bite, however it is not strong enough to break skin (think like a crab pinch)
