I'm looking for any help or advice with the lines on this to make the chest less flat looking. That and any other problems anyone can see with anatomy and such. Anything would be very much appreciated.
Oh, and the legs are unfinished since they wont be shown in the final picture anyway.

i actually like the way the chest is looking for the type of shirt he is wearing and the looseness of it you wouldnt see that many defining lines.
i think what you are seeing that is making it look so flat is the torso is elongated. there are many body types some people do have a larger seperation between the bottom of the ribs and top of the hips but what you have drawn is a little too long even for that
also the hips on the male figure tend to be almost as broad as the shoulders he's got a very upside down triangle look to the body right now.
heres a red line to show what i'm talking about - http://s281.photobucket.com/albums/kk204/Voodoomoonwolf/?action=view¤t=dunebuggy_say_hello_lines.jpg
those notes aside one thing i'm really enjoying is his face love the expressiveness you've captured i have a hard time with that so bravo =)

that's good that you use ref and arent afraid to (dont know your method) but what helps me when dealing with clothing is to use this site to get the pose i want down and fleshed out - http://www.posemaniacs.com/ then find ref for the clothes and follow the contours of the body i've already drawn that way you arent fighting to understand anatomy under the clothing =3
Also, one thing I was thinking about when you say to bring the hips and crotch up. In the reference photo I used the seams on the clothes just ended up hanging that low because that's how clothes are in real life, but I realized that translating real life to a drawing doesn't go over so well and need to get out of the mentality that it has to look just like the photo. So again, thank you!
well the clothing could certainly fall that way and many illustrators including myself use photos as a ref but getting the anatomy and form underneath is what will allow you to translate the way the clothes fall so it does look like the picture
one problem with using a photo instead of a model is the camera by the nature of the lense taking something 3D to 2D will skew what things look like so its something to keep in mind using them as a ref is more to get the general idea that making it look exactly like the photo

the only problems I see are the way the bottle looks, it seems a bit awkward and small, and the hand also looks kinda small, and a bit to square. the fingers look like they just kinda end rather than wrapping around the bottle, but I like the way you drew the face. very cute. <3 aside from that and how the pants look (though the pants seem to have been resolved), it looks very nice. ^_^
