Some of the actual rock formations of the Trona Pinnacles. Dont let the image fool you, these things are VERY massive. The main one in this picture is probably about 3 stories tall.
I like how this came out. Its another HDR shot (so much easier with a good tripod). Theres just a power to this image, so I think the name is fitting.
This image looks REALLY good in black and white. The problem is picking which black and white filter to use. It looks really good with many of them. Both will be front page worth I think, so no scrapping here, lol. Ill need to do some thinking on which filter to use on the BW version. Ill get back to you on that...

Tufa are the calcium carbonate towers created under giant alkaline (basic) lakes in the Pleistocene era. It's caused by the intermingling of mineral rich waters (calcium) with with carbon compounds in the water (precipitating from algea metabolic processes).
My favorite array are in Winnemucca Lake, Nevada because they have the best signs of water activity. Mud Sill there is also the best place to watch storms pass over Pyramid Lake.
