I like the figure, but adding the wing underneath doesn't seem to have helped as much as I'd have wanted. I fear it needs a revamp...

It's part of the problem. It only works if the plane is a P-26 -- an early American monoplane fighter that had pretty stubby wings. I figure on erasing the wings that are, and instead of trying to perfect perspective, go for an edge on effect. The difference would be slight in any case.
The Bwkl.90 1/2 was certainly Bullwinkle's fault. Althought the fledgling Army Air Corp did its best to bury the plane in red tape, top secret classifications and millions of litres of high grade bafflegab, the world soon learned of what is still considered, by many aviation historians, as the single worst aircraft ever designed, military or civilian!
In the old Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoons, Rocky was supposed to be a guy, but the voice actor was June Foray. Many years later this gave me the idea of writing an interview of Rocky in which she revealls she was a tomboy who signed onto the Air Force in WWII as a boy. She led a rather more colourful life than the cartoon show would indicate.
Yeah so that's why it was familiar to me. I knew about the show but never ever seen a frame. The show has started when my dad was born. Time is a cruel thing. Wow hey your idea for your writing is great. (= In the Rugrats they made a parody of this show right? When they showed Stu and Drew back when they were babies. (=
(= I only found this crap video of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NiiZm4GtJs
