These are the Olympian rulers of the Greek Underworld, Hades and Persephone.
Lore
From time immemorial, Lord Hades has ruled the Underworld with a strict, but benevolent nature. He has dominion over the dead and the other denizens of the Underworld. However, despite having such overwhelming power, he began feeling lonely over time. When looking at the Mortal World, Hades happened to looked upon Persephone, the Goddess of Vegetation. He was dumbstruck by her beauty.
Persephone was gathering flowers with her friends, the water nymphs, when Hades came from underground in his black chariot. He invited Persephone into his kingdom. Persephone was hesitant and nervous at first. But, after spending time together, Hades and Persephone fell in love. Hades even crowned her Queen of the Underworld, making her his equal.
Noticing that her daughter Persephone was missing, Demeter, Goddess of Harvest and Agriculture, stopped performing her duties of growing crops. Instead, Demeter started searching for her beloved daughter. To prevent the world from starving, Persephone decides to return to her mother and explain the situation. Before leaving, Hades offered her some pomegranate seeds, so she could be eternally bound to the Underworld. Persephone willingly ate the seeds, not wanting to be separated from her beloved husband. Persephone visits her mother every once in a while, but she spends most of her time ruling the Underworld with her husband.
