I was in a very simlar situation!
I loved the trading cards as a kid (I couldn't afford a gameboy, the cards were hand-me-downs) until one day I bought a booster pack and got a Jungle Blastoise! I was so proud of it, but all my cards got stolen the next day... >:
Anywho, I got back into it with Fire Red and now I play HG.
