Defending the Jewel
As Japanese forces push relentlessly across Asia, the Commonwealth turns to one man - er, deer - to stem the tide: Brigadier Corn! Or rather Lieutenant Corn, RAF Far East Air Force!
Okay, alright, yes he'd be over 130 years old by the time World War II rolled around. But doesn't he look positively dashing in that tropical RAF uniform? And nothing'd be more befitting for everyone's favorite photographer of old British birds and battlefield relics,
ant!
I had a ton of fun with this and count myself lucky that it turned out how it did! It's the first to really apply everything I've learned in the past few months, and I think it accurately shows what level I'm at artistically. I tried deeper shading per
mikakitty's suggestion, fewer lines and with lots of variable weights, some level and saturation tweaking on the top to pull the layers together, and an overlay of parchment texture to try to get that antiqued look
sciencefox always pulls off so well.
For the DH Mosquito I tried employing the same sort of weathering techniques I would use for modeling, and it worked pretty well! It loses a little at 50%, though, so here's a full-res detail for any aviation buffs.

I do! In fact, I think it's through your comment on the first picture that I did for him that I found out about you and all your wonderful stories!
Haha, thanks! The Commonwealth forces at war against Japan in World War II really deserve some more attention; I think us Yankees can tend to get caught up in thinking that that front was 'our war.' So cheers to the efforts of you Aussies who manned the lines in the Pacific (not to mention the New Zealanders, Indians, Canadians, British, etc. etc. etc. XD)!
