NOTE;
This is a character I've been developing for some time. It's likely that they will change drastically in the future, but I can't wait any longer to post this. You can read the context below if you are interested as to the meaning of some of the words I use. Keep in mind these are brief summaries so there might still be missing or unclear info as of right now. There is also a lot more information about this character’s personality that I will add in future posts. I will be referring to these creatures as people as I don't have a name for them right now.
Kagami-Kagami is a young Shiriōrubarā that possesses a very old and very powerful piece of a Shirior within him which he has managed to coexist with via extreme determination and discipline. Kagami was born into a small cliff side village located in a very dangerous area. However, he was taken from his family shortly after his birth by members of an empire that had raided the village in search of valuable minerals. Typically, a child of a raided village would be sold into slavery, however Kagami possessed a birthmark on his upper back which to the raiders resembled the marking of their god. Because of this Kagami was seen as worthy of becoming a Shiriōrubarā and was sent to a Kenjutsu school. There he would train tirelessly for 22 years but despite his extreme efforts he was never able to become a full-fledged Shiriōrubarā. He was abnormally small for his age, and though he was proficient in many combat arts, and was more than capable with a sword and bow he couldn't really deal out damage on a high enough scale to be regarded as a reliable Shiriōrubarā. So instead, Kagami was given the role of healer. He might not have been able to deal damage very well, but his small size and quick speed allowed him to efficiently and discreetly assist his fallen allies in battle. He still suffered great shame because of this though, and while he wasn't fully aware as to what had happened to his family the vague memories of being taken still tormented him.
One spring afternoon Kagami and three Shiriōrubarā got called out to investigate a missing persons case. Kagami was rather confident that they could not only find the missing person, but even save them or at least slay whatever took them. But all his optimism faded away when he and his group encountered 2 8ft tall serpentine beasts which wielded long, and well-worn blades stained with the blood of a thousand battles. Though his group fought viciously, and Kagami did his best to assist, he was kicked off a cliff during the fight and only barely managed to escape death by grabbing a vine before plummeting any further. Once he got on solid ground, he desperately made his way back up to where the fight was taking place, only to find a silent and crooked individual covered in the blood of his allies and the serpentine beasts. Kagami attempted to face this thing in combat but was quickly struck down and once again was thrown off the cliff but this time his lifeless body fell all the way down to the very depth of the mountains. He later awoke in shock from what had just transpired, confused and in a daze, Kagami began his journey all the way back up to his town now holding within him a piece of that man's Shirior.
The picture you see above depicts what Kagami would look like once he made his way all the way back up to his village, his arm looking all crooked because that is where the Shirior manifested its power. The Shirior is attached to his spinal cord but is not in control since it is only a piece of a larger Shirior; it acts more like a real parasite rather than a separate spirit. Because of this the Shirior will resurrect Kagami more than once, but each time he resurrects the Shirior gains more control and eventually will become conscious and take over Kagami once he dies after it gains consciousness. However, if he can refrain from dying too many times as long as he kills another Shiriōrubarā he can quell the Shiriro’s hunger for control for a time, making the Shirior stronger but not smarter allowing him to essentially reset how many times he can die. Kagami can theoretically die thousands of times, but this would require him to be killing nonstop and that is very much not something Kagami is interested in doing.
Remember Kagami is a healer, and though he can fight he doesn't particularly enjoy it. However, he does see this as a sort of blessing as he now possesses the power to assist those in need whether that be by defending them from threats or helping to retrieve trapped individuals using his newfound strength. The Strange thing on the right side of the picture is what the Shirior looks like.
Context:
World: Kagami is a humanoid cat-like creature who lives in a world where these cat creatures rain as the dominant species, at least when it comes to intelligence. The continent Kagami is located on is sort of like Earth's Pangea, but way larger. Both hostile predator and prey animals roam the lands, as well as nomadic tribes of bandits and spirits. In order for a society to function they must not only be located in a safe area, but have access to food, water and reliable shelter, but the aforementioned hostile lands complicate this.
Special forces: Oftentimes even an organized group of trained warriors can't protect a society from outside invaders or supernatural threats. It is for this reason that many societies implement a “special forces”(the name of the special force differs depending on culture) to help with defense.
These special forces typically consist of volunteers and skilled individuals possessing great knowledge or power. However, Kagami was unfortunately forced into this way of life, taken from his family as an infant due to him supposedly possessing the ability to produce a “Shirior”.
Shirior: Shirior is a being that takes control of a host and leaks a dark red substance that has a consistency similar to that of sap once the host dies. This red sap will typically transfer the Shiror to another host, but with an obsidian glass jar it can be harvested without corruption to the harvester. The Shirior can then be used for a variety of things, such as strengthening weapons and armor, fixing broken structures while also strengthening them, or if one is so bold it can be reintroduced to a host to transfer the previous hosts power and knowledge. An un experience commoner can within seconds gain the knowledge of a season warrior if they can withstand the Shiror’s power. of course, one does not simply gain a Shirior on their own, one must first spend years of their life taking others life force before they begin to become a Shiriōrubarā (Individual who possesses a Shirior) . A Shirior is the result of a sort of “rot” that forms on the soul of those who kill frequently and over time will develop into its own malicious being which will one day take control of the host once said host has killed enough and died. In some cases, the Shirior will resurrect the host after death as long as said host continues to kill. Each resurrection also degrades the host's body and overturns more control to the Shirior. This “rot” can be reduced either through extreme meditation, determination, or through satiating the Shirior by killing another Shiriōrubarā.
