Here we see Malzel. This lovely character is owned by 
KojimaFire, my first commissioner ever. Thus, this is the first commission I've ever done. And I could say that it has been quite an experience!
I have decided to open commissions on a limited basis to help finance the purchase of a house of my own with my partner. Usually, the money from my work and his is enough for the usual household expenses and a little more but acquiring a house of our own threatens to be a monumental monthly expense. Therefore, I have decided to open commissions, just enough until we can normalize our finances for the endeavor
For months I was terrified of taking commissions… yes, terrified. That was because during my time in the furry fandom I always saw that commissions were a way of attracting drama. In part I had this vision because most of my former acquaintances who took commissions were and still are highly dramatic. I was afraid that something similar would happen to me: meet people that came to me and that in the end were abusive or be all kinds of bad things.
When I nervously opened commissions with a Journal 2 weeks ago that “taking commissions equals drama” image crumbled. I literally could not have asked for a kinder and more caring commissioner. Throughout the entire process there was nothing but great communication and respect. And once I finished each stroke and coloring, I felt amazing, like I could fly higher. Seeing a client's satisfaction with my art was wonderful.
So yes, my first commission was a resounding success and probably the best possible entry into the world of paid art. If everyone is as cool and caring as Kojimafire, it could make taking commissions something permanent and not just a temporal thing.

Simply fantastic work my friend, I expected nothing less from you~. I understand your fears and concerns as well as you never know who will come to you for a commission. You could end up with a real Karen lol. But I would see it as mostly transactional you know? More like they pay money and you provide a service kind of thing. I wouldn't let it get too close to your heart and such unless they show interest or you have an interest in getting to know new people ^^

I know, although I always want to have a pleasant relationship with a client/watcher. The positive is that Kojimafire was pleasant and respectful, literally, he showed me the best possible introduction to the world of paid art.
Obviously if someone was rude to me I would start putting up barriers and the relationship would be purely based on my TOS, but it would be sad, because I have been cultivating a good relationship with the fandom for years and years. That's why I want everything to be pleasant.

AHAHA x3 bueno el chico es la epitome del drama lel, pero sí, él era una de las razones por las cuales siempre vi el tomar comisiones como un imán de drama.
La clara diferencia entre él y yo es la calidad, mi publico está más acostumbrado a arte mucho más elaborado. Asumo eso atrae gente buena.

Well, I just hope that your future commissions go as smoothly as this one! And in case you do get the occasional asshole who's just there to try and ruin your day, do you get paid before you start legitimate work on the commission? Cuz if ya do and they start trashing you, all you'd hafta do is finish their commission and be done with them. They can try and say you screwed them over, but the finished product speaks for itself. Regardless, I hope you never hafta go through that!
Yes, I only start working once (at least) the first payment has been made, and the final product is delivered only when the last payment is made. Don't worry, I have a pretty strong TOS, in fact I spent a whole month just creating the TOS ahaha.
And well, I have 15 years of experience making art. But still I was nervous, it's something I've never done before. It's hard to get out of the comfort zone after so long.
The good thing is that Kojimafire was the perfect help to defeat all fears. I feel much more confident about taking commissions now.

I'm glad your commission experience was positive. With how amazing your art is, in my opinion I don't think you will have many issues getting commissioners. But as I said that us just an opinion.
