While I'm here stuck indoors for the time being, biding my time I keep getting ideas in my mind. One of the types of photography that has been showing up in my feeds a lot more often has been these images of intentional lens movement. While most often you see these images in nature, and they look really cool, I wanted to see if I could do something a little different. I wanted to freeze the image, but still create the motion blur effect. So, I pulled out a small flash, put a diffuser hood on, and shot it at 1/8th power. A little red fill light form the side, and of course I had a rope light set out on the table, most of the bulbs were under random pieces, but I left a few visible to create the light streaking effect. Not one I'm putting on my website, but I think it's a fun thing to experiment with!

It's a very intriguing concept; however I feel the "Divine Comedy" piece takes up too much white space and looks too modern compared to the Tarot card images. Possibly a more decorative or illustrated book cover would have fitted in better; it's too late now of course, unless you're able to drop one in "in post production." Since that part of the mage isn't so warped you could overlay it.
Oh it completely unbalances the composition lol. I knew it did when I took the photo, I did consider masking it off and changing the cover of the cover, but eventually I decided to call it quits and try again at a later date once I figure out some of the more of this type of photography. I'll play with this sort of thing some more and see what happens, I like the concept, but like all things it's going to take me some time to fully wrap my head around it.
I feel similar hesitation, especially when people ask me to actively critique their photos. At this point in my work though, I like having my photos critiqued, even if its something I already knew about the photo, it helps bring clarity to the idea. I'll experiment more with this idea, and maybe one day I'll crack it, or fall flat on my face lol, either way its something to do.
