Ahh, I lovehate that Day of the Dead has become so trendy!
Love it because it's awesome to see all of the art that's been floating around lately, but hate because... I don't know if many people truly understand what it's all about. (It's much more than just COOL LOOKIN' SKELETONS!)
Do you know what it's all about? If not, I challenge you to educate yourself about this beautiful holiday!

I went to the Los Angeles Day of the Dead Festival last night with anthropomorphaholic and we acquired this delightful plate of mini sugar skulls! They're meant more so for decoration, but I'm not gonna lie... we tried a couple of them. THEY REALLY ARE SO SWEET! :X

And having educated myself to the extent a few googlings can provide, I think anyone treating this like Halloween should be kicked right in the reproductive organ. What a noble and beautiful holiday! There's a lot of lingo I must learn (you have a stellar calacas) and exactly how this is celebrated is so LOCAL it's tough to generalize it other than the overall meaning. I love the injection of humor and celebration in the holiday, I think it may be a better way to pay one's respects than a brief, austere visit to the departed's grave. I can't think of a western culture holiday that isn't a complete writeoff in comparison to this.
