Long time, partner. Advanced criticism and professional advice are strongly encouraged.
This is a mixed media rendering of the character Slim Reeser from the 1987 Ethan Wiley film House II: The Second Story. The illustration was rendered on a 12 inch by 9 inch sheet of vellum Bristol, utilizing both graphic pencils and charcoal. This rendering is my special submission for Halloween.
House II: The Second Story is a sequel of sorts to the 1986 Steve Miner horror comedy House. There are sources that would classify House II as being a horror, but I would have to disagree and say that it is more like a fantasy that incidentally features two undead zombies. The character Slim Reeser is the main antagonist of the sequel, a zombie cowboy that seeks the power of a magical crystal skull. The physical role of Reeser was performed by Dean Cleverdon while his voice was provided by veteran voice actor Frank Welker, better known for voice roles such as Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget and Megatron from Transformers.
House II: The Second Story is admittedly a nostalgic favorite film of mine that I still very much enjoy, in spite of many critics who choose to only lambaste the picture. It's a film that I would always recommend and I would suggest to those who haven't yet seen it to go out and check it out for yourselves.
I think my charcoal work needs a lot of refinement. I'm not quite sure how well the marriage of pencils and charcoal is working out. For this project, I limited my variety of pencils to a B and a 3B.
Thank you very much for your visit and have a safe and enjoyable Halloween!
