A few of you know I have a book series in the works. This here is the Half King, a former monarch of a shape-shifting race that lives primarily in the dark realm Svartalfheim. In the Lore of Cosmic Driftwood, the Namican once coexisted with all other races before a corruption began overtaking them. Their Second King, to save both his people and all else, had to thrust all Namican into another dimensional plane, before their powers could destroy everyone. This also restricted the corrupting influence from interacting with the Namican very easily.
The method the Second King used to isolate them did offer provision to return the plane of their nativity: they had to bargain with the Fates to place restrictions in exchange for certain levels of access. The more clever Namican developed various systems that the less clever can choose from (still in development):
Djinn, to be bound to a physical object of some sort, must serve whoever possess said object. Depending on the personal alignment of the Namican in question, between Justice/Mercy and Order/Chaos, will depend on how that service manifests.
Fae: vulnerability to "iron"; may appear however large or small they desire, must make deals to thrive. Again, one who approaches a fae for any deals must be aware of Justice/Mercy and Order/Chaos alignment.
Gargoyle: cannot move during daylight. Very little special ability beyond physical strength and perhaps wisdom.
Some classes of Namican can possess a more limited interaction with the plane of nativity, without needing to work with the Fates:
Muse: feeds off creative energy (Manah) expended by individual creatures of the other Realms. In turn, Muses will provide creative input, including information that the artist or author couldn't possibly know.
The Lore is still in development.
