“I can’t wait to finally see the new Good Guys 2 movie!” Kodi exclaimed as he walked along the sidewalk, an excited energy to him that was easily noticeable, an energy that the tiger walking next to him, certainly noticed.
“Yeah, the first one was great! Though, I’m curious how this sequel’s going to be since just about everything was concluded by the end of the film.” The tiger, Xyln, wondered, casually walking by the Kodi’s side as the two had reached their destination. It was a fairly standard house, nothing about it that really separated it from the many other buildings they passed on their way here. What made this house special though, was the large Skunk inside who’d just open the front door to greet the wolfdog and the tiger.
“There you are! Glad you could make it. Come on in, I’ve got the movie and everything ready.” He beckoned the two inside and they immediately followed, stepping into the spacious living room, complete with a sizable couch, a television set to play The Good Guys 2 at the press of a button, and a table in the center of the room loading with a bowl of popcorn and other various snacks.
Kodi and Xyln eagerly walked in and made their way to the wide couch sat in front of the television, making conversation as they got comfortable. “Yeah, of course! Thanks again for inviting us over, Azure. I’ve wanted to watch this movie since it hit the theaters!” the wolfdog explained, practically kicking his feet from the couch with excitement. As much as he wanted to catch the movie on opening night, or any of the weekends after, he could never seem to find the time with his busy schedule. He was planning to go this coming weekend until Azure raised the idea of a movie night at his place during his last visit with the skunk. “Thanks for inviting me too! Glad I could watch this with you guys.” Xyln, added on with a wide smile. Azure was also the one who proposed inviting Xyln as well, and Kodi was all for the idea. He always enjoyed the tiger’s company so the three of them sharing a movie night together sounded like the perfect idea to the enthusiastic canine.
As the Azure was about to sit down, he briefly patted himself down, a look of realization spreading across his face, as he looked around for a moment, before across the room. “Oop. Hey, Xyln pal. Could you grab the remote over there for me?” The tiger’s ears perked at that, and he gave an immediate, “Sure thing, Sir!” while flashing a brief smile before getting up from his spot on the couch to retrieve the remote and personally hand it to the skunk who had just taken a seat. That caught Kodi a little off guard a bit, but not the interaction itself. It was more like the way it happened that felt a little… off. The near instant response as if he was expected? But maybe the wolf is just reading too much into it. Xyln’s always been a polite person, and it’s just a remote after all.
Apparently, Azure must have caught the slight shift in Kodi because immediately after he presses the play button, the skunk turns to Kodi. “Hey, want to see a neat trick real quick?” Kodi gave a confused look. A trick? Now? “It’s this neat little thing I can do with my pendant. You’ve seen it before, Xyln. Remember?” He continued, nudging the tiger a bit as he now held the blue and gold trinket by its chain. It slowly turned as it dangled between the three of them. “O-oh yeah, that! I remember!” Xyln blurted out, though his eyes were still totally fixed on the pendant. Again, something about it just felt a little… off to Kodi, but he trusted both his friends and decided to go along with this. It was a nice looking pendant, especially with how it was reflecting in the light, slowly moving. “Alright, what’s this gonna be? Some kind of magic trick?”
“Gehehe. Yeah, and all you have to do is try and keep your eyes on this pendant here. Just focus on it and don’t let it leave your sight or the trick won’t work.” That didn't seem hard to the wolfdog, even with Azure suddenly deciding to swing the thing back and forth. It was still easy to follow. Kodi guessed this was going to be one of those optical illusions or sleight of hand tricks that rely on the audience to focus on one thing and notice another. Either way, he was doing a pretty good job of focusing on this pendant, though he was starting to feel just a little tired. His eyes were still following the blue gem, but it was getting hard to actually keep his eyes open.
Kodi wasn’t sure how long he’d been keeping at this little trick of Azure’s. Time had seemed to fade away a while ago. At least, he thinks it was a while ago? Maybe it hadn’t been that long. Hopefully he wasn’t missing the mov- *SNAP* Everything just went blank. Everything had felt pretty empty up until that. It was just him and that pendant he was staring at before that sudden snap broke everything and there wasn’t even that anymore. Kodi’s body slumped over, his weight falling onto Xyln, who was in a similar state as him, sitting between him and the skunk. Everything else was an empty blur to the wolfdog.
“Hey… Kodi… Kodiii… up and at em little guy.” Kodi could faintly hear a voice coming through the void he’d been floating in. I was starting to get louder. “Hey, Kodi… how are ya?” That sounds like… Azure? Kodi’s eyes began to flutter open to reveal Azure and Xyln leaning over him, taking up most of his vision. “H-huh? What’s going on?” The wolfdog let out in a tired voice as he slowly started to sit up from his resting position.
“Hey, there, buddy. You enjoying the movie so far?” Azure asked innocently. “Uh… I guess? I’m not too sure actually.” Kodi was having a hard time recalling what had actually happened in the movie so far. He couldn’t seem to recall much of anything just after the movie started for that matter. Did he fall asleep? At the very start of the movie? How? He felt great just a while ago. Whatever, there’s still plenty of movie left, so there’s still time to catch up on what he missed and enjoy the rest. And that seemed to be how things were going… for a short time at least.
It wasn’t long at all since waking up that Kodi got a weird feeling. That tingle you get when you feel someone watching you. A glance to his right and sure enough, just past Xyln, is Azure staring right at him with this smirk on his face, the tiger seemingly not even noticing as his eyes stayed focused ahead of him. Kodi’s eyes quickly darted away at the awkwardness of the situation. What’s his deal? Curious, he snuck a glance back at the skunk and… still staring with those yellow, wait… blue eyes? Wait, what? Since when were his eyes blue? They were always yellow, right? He couldn’t remember. Wait, now they’re yellow again. No, blue. Now yellow. Blue. Yellow. Blue. Yellow. Blue. Yellow. Blue…
If Kodi had a mirror, maybe he would have noticed his own eyes starting to pulse similar blues and yellows as Azure’s before matching his perfectly as his thoughts slowly came to a halt. He was back in that empty void, except instead him and a pendant, it was him and a pair of eyes swirling in blue and yellow. His mind floated there just staring a head, enjoying the show, appreciating how nice they were, wanting more. Soon, just like last time, even that came to a screeching halt as went back to that sunken place even deeper than where he just was. Though not by a sudden snap, but by a voice that uttered a simple command, “Sleep.”
“Hey. Hey. Are you okay?” Kodi didn’t feel like waking up, even as Xyln sat there, arm on the wolfdog’s shoulder, shaking him and calling out to him. Kodi felt like it was Monday morning and he didn’t want to get out of bed, even with an alarm blaring and ruining his sleep. Eventually though, the wolfdog did slowly open his eyes to see Xyln giving him a concerned look with Azure off to the side with a look that was harder to read, but it looked like concern.“Kodi. Are you okay. You keep passing out.” Kodi’s attention was brought back at that as he realized he still hadn’t said anything yet.
“Yeah. I guess I’m just a little more tired than I thought.” He said, groggily rubbing his eyes. “You can rest in the bedroom, if that’s the case. C’mon. We’ll take you there.” Azure stated as he stood up and was already starting to help the wolfdog stand up with Xyln automatically at his side helping. “No. No. You don’t have to do that for me. I’ll be fine.” Kodi tried to sound convincing but sounded no less sleepy than before.
“No. I insist.” Azure stated, a little more firmly than before, shifting his position some, causing Kodi to catch a glimpse of his eyes. Seeing that of blue or yellow or both caused Kodi to lose his train of thought. What was he just about to say? It doesn’t matter. He’d better just listen and go to the bedroom.
As the trio made their way into the bedroom, Kodi went ahead and leaned against the edge of the bed. “Thanks guys. I don’t know what’s going… on…” As he turned around to face the two who had helped, his words tailed off as Azure stood in front of him, eyes swirling with familiar blues and yellows, Xyln at his side with a goofy looking smile plastered on his face, eyes wide and spinning with same colors as the skunk’s. Kodi was left baffled. He wanted to ask what was going on. He wanted to move. He wanted to say, do, or even think anything, but there was nothing. He was blank and left at the mercy of the skunk standing before him as his own eyes soon matched those of Xyln and Azure’s.
“Gehehe. I’ve had my eyes on you for a while~” Azure let out a chuckle as he approached the frozen wolfdog. “I’ve been meaning to get another pet for some time now, and what better pet to go with an adorable kitty… than a cute little dog.” He snapped his fingers in Xyln’s direction, causing him to snap to attention, and calmly stated, “Kitty, go fetch my pet supplies.” The command earned several eager nods from the tiger as he excitedly stated, “Yes, sir. Right away sir.” before walking off and swiftly returning with two collars, one around his neck with a gold tag with X.T. engraved on it, and another one similar to it, but with K.H. engraved on it that was handed to Azure. “Good, good~” Azure cooed, scratching under the tiger’s chin, getting several purrs from the tiger as he slumped slightly into the skunk’s fur while slurring out the phrase “I’m a good boy. I’m a good pet.” over and over.
"Your turn little guy. Gehehe~" Azure chuckled as he turned his attention back to the still frozen wolfdog. "Go on. Say it."
"I-I.. I'm a… good… boy…" Kodi was trying to fight to it in some small hope that he'd be able escape, but that was quickly slipping away as he couldn't help but listen to the skunk's words and do what what he said. "I'm a… I'm a good… pet." His brain was failing him more and more as each time, the words came out more naturally.
Azure smile as he reached over and clipped the second collar he held around Kodi's neck. "There we go. Keep going." The skunk gently brought his hand up Kodi's muzzle, moving it slightly for the wolfdog to make more direct eye contact with the skunk.
"I'm a good boy… I'm a good pet." Kodi let out in a rather monotone voice, his mouth somewhat hanging open as he spoke.
"Gehehe~ Again. You too, Kitten."
"I'm a good boy. I'm a good pet."
"Perfect. I'd say made a good choice in pets. I think we're all gonna get along real well."
