Hekarsashil, the Godsbane Sword
Of all the weapons that exist in this universe, none stand as high as that of Hekarsashil. Hekarsashil is described as being a one handed arming sword made of a pale golden metal with a red oval shaped handle. Its overall size is about 44 inches in length, with the handle being about eight inches long from pommel to crossguard, and the other 36 inches being the blade. In the middle of where the crossguard is, there is a ring shaped opening, with a pale cold light illuminating the opening. On the blade, there is also what appears to be a sword breaker near the crossguard. The blade has both a profile and a distal taper. On top of all this, the sword itself faintly glows on all sides, giving it a divine appearance. Though it is unclear if the sword is actually holy in nature.
The Godsbane Sword, as it is known otherwise, has been around since the beginning of time itself it seems. If there was a maker, they have long since been forgotten to time. It is as mysterious as it is majestic in its appearance.
No, instead the sword seems to have simply... existed. Even the gods themselves cannot remember a time where it was not present. What they do remember is how much they have tried in the past to keep it from getting into the hands of the mortals they created. For a mortal with this sword could defeat one of them, should they prove strong enough to master the blade.
But try as they might, the mortals became aware of its existence nearly as soon as some gods mistreated their worshippers. The sword itself has been in the hands of a select few mortals. But of those few, fewer still have ever successfully used it on their divine enemy.
Out of the possibly six that have managed to obtain the weapon, only two have actually defeated a god with it. This is because, while the sword has appeared to those in great need, Hekarsashil does not so easily allow one to become its master. Which brings us to some of its unique properties.
The sword seems to have a form of sentience to it. It can think, it can talk to its current wielder, and it can even appear before those who have great need of it. To someone that has just wielded it for the first time, it may appear to be just a sword with the ability to kill gods. But to those the sword considers its master, the benefits are well worth all efforts to master it.
To someone the sword has considered its master, it grants several abilities and powers.
The first power it has is it can "kill" a god: Despite its name, the sword does not actually kill gods. Rather it sends them to a realm with no escape. A type of divine purgatory. There is no known way for those who have been sent here to get out and it is increasingly likely there is none. They are sent there for eternity to await the destruction of the universe itself. One could consider this a fate worse than death and it is the main reason the gods are so frightful of it. Even to a new wielder, the sword grants this.
To a master, the sword can imbue them with divine knowledge of combat, making them supernaturally talented with the blade. This can also even extend to the idea of controlling the user's age to best suit the use of the weapon, should it be necessary. If the master in question is a child, they will grow up and become an adult. If the master in question is an elderly person, they will actually age down to a far more fit and energetic age to allow for the most effective use of the weapon. This age typically results in someone who appears to be in the age range equivalent of 21 to 35 years of age.
The sword also grants its user an enormous willpower and vitality that matches their strength. What this means is that a master of the weapon can survive and even shrug off wounds that would otherwise be fatal.
The sword is also incapable of being broken. There is nothing, and I do mean nothing that can break its metal or even chip it. The sword is indestructible. It can be dismantled, however. Though the energy needed to dismantle it requires a power source that most mortals cannot find. Typically only the divine can dismantle it and even for them it is a time consuming and very taxing process with little reward. Which leads to the next and final thing it can do.
The final thing it can do is appear to the wielder at any moment should their need arise. It does not matter if it is on their person or a million light years away from them, the sword WILL instantaneously appear in their hands if the wielder wants or needs it. Even if it is dismantled, if it reappears to a person who has already mastered it, it will return to them completely assembled. This ONLY happens with a master of the weapon however.
If dismantled and it appears before a new potential master, this wielder will only get the hilt and will need to find the remaining pieces. Fortunately, they appear in areas that are relatively close to them and the hilt can even lead them to the areas where they are located. Once all the pieces are collected, they simply need assemble the sword and it will consider this wielder its new master.
While the sword has the capability of "killing" gods, it has only done so twice throughout its history of use. It almost had a third victory but the wielder of the sword at the time proved too weak to handle the sword and thus failed in defeating the god they challenged. This was the first attempt and the individuals in question have been lost to time.
Hekarsashil has been considered by many to be the only true way a mortal can defeat a god and challenge divine authority. This is because it is the only known practical way to do exactly that. When a mortal is in the most dire need and the sword sees potential in that individual, it will come to their defense. This is why the gods fear it. This is why the gods hide it from mortal people.
But no matter how much they hide it, there is no way to stop it from making itself known. No matter what the gods do... Hekarsashil will always find itself in the hands of those qualified individuals that need it most.
