Godric is the newly crowned Burmese cat king of Edwin. While he retains a boyish appearence (in part because of how he has aged well and also because he dresses informally compared to most royalty), he is a seasoned 33-years-old.
Interestingly enough, while the Edwinish propoganda machine claims Godric is the decendant of Midas (the feline god who takes the shape of a golden Burmese cat), he was born into slavery. His mother was sold by his father to an Edwinish noble to pay some debts when she was pregnant with him and once he was old enough, the tot -- not important enough for a name -- was put to work. His first master died suddenly, though, so he and his mother were shipped off to the noble family of the Manchesters who were the black sheep of Edwinish Society, living out in the 'boondocks' being far too reclusive. The boy's mother died the first night so the Manchesters decided to keep the boy as a playmate for thier son, Godric. They named the boy (who could barely talk) Jordan.
Jordan proved to be cleverer -- though he had a stuttering problem that persisted into his 20s -- than Godric, but the pair got on well and the Manchesters were happy. When Jordan turned 21, he was asked to take Manchester as his surname and become a real member of the family. Accepting, it wasn't long before his brother fell ill and died. The night following, Lord Manchester committed suicide. Lady Manchester was so devestated by the double tragedy, she lost touch with reality and began to believe that Jordan was Godric. Realizing he could use this to his advantage, Jordan took on the name of Godric Manchester and the patents of nobility that came with it. He moved his mother and himself to the summer cottage and entered into Edwin Society where he was a great success. When the former king declined, there was a cry from both the aristocracy and peasants for the charismatic and ambitious golden feline to take the throne and he did.
