Now the octopus is a clever mimic, being able to change the chromataphores in it's skin to resemble the colours and textures of the sea bottom for camoflage. An oceanographer friend of mine told me once that given the right conditions, an octopus would try to mimic the pattern of a checkerboard. I've always thought that'd be an interesting subject to draw, so here's my interpretation of that idea.
