just a picture of a tail hook on a F-16 at the wings over houston airshow. i thought it was interesting. now the question is does anyone know why there's a tail hook on it?

all towing is done with a towbar that attaches to the nose landing gear

yes but the F-16 is not a carrier based aircraft

emergency cable arrest landing, if brakes fail, aircraft is damaged etc. This was common practice for the USAF F-4 Phantom II as well

that might be actually be right. i thought the main reason was that this F-16 belongs to the Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun). but i just realised that theres no catapult attachment on the front gear. so that rules out carrier opperations
