So here we have a Vidari Star Navy officer, having been stationed on Terra post First Contact, learning the science of magic from  Cpt-Night’s bodiless character Evelyn. Here the officer (who I’ve come to know as Zh’kel), is being shown a mana crystal, which is the main source of magic outside dedicated zones or cities, and act as magic batteries.
Usually a type of quartz, the color of the crystal is as variable as quartz is itself.
Outside of Terra, magic, or arcane energy as it’s also known, is exceedingly rare, despite its near infinite uses. Which is in part why Terra is so strategic to so many different races and species. This magic is what allows beings like Evelyn to exist as a bodiless head, or allow modularity, or elemental magic, or various other uses. So to a Vidari officer like Zh’kel, this type of thing is fascinating.
